Here's something that's not too surprising: Neverending White Lights frontman Daniel Victor loves Dead Man's Bones, actor Ryan Gosling's (Half Nelson, Lars And the Real Girl) creepy band.Victor listed his 100 favourite songs and 20 favourite albums of 2009 in a Jan. 10 MySpace blog post.
Dead Man's Bones' "Buried In the Water" was his favourite song of last year, while the band's "In the Room where You Sleep" came in at #13 on his list. Dead Man's Bones' self-titled debut album was his second favourite album released in 2009. Given that Dead Man's Bones' album is full of death-obsessed, macabre pop and Neverending White Lights' MySpace page describes their music as "gothic" and "melodramatic," that Victor enjoys Dead Man's Bones makes complete sense.Despite having a gigantic list of songs on his blog, Victor says 2009 wasn't a great year for music."Besides the crumbling industry, it is getting increasingly difficult to separate the junk from the gems," he wrote. "a lot of the completely obscure buzz bands just don't live up to the hype. Cool or not, they're mostly just worth one track at the most.
"As a whole, it is hard to find consistently good material. with the means of recording technology in so many average people's hands, we're just getting lost in fields of noise. However, this does allow's [sic] for the very rare occasional genius to be found. Which is sometimes worth it. And it also allows for more choice and more selection. But, [sic] you need a bigger weed-whacker."Victor also enjoyed music by Passion Pit, White Lies, Bat for Lashes, Animal Collective and Julian Casablancas last year. oh, and his favourite album of 2009? White Lies' To Lose my Life or my Lose my Love. White Lies are pretty goth, and so is that album title.Victor is working on the third Neverending White Lights album, which he says could end up being a double album. It's not known when Act III will be out.
