A YOUNG performer from St Albans has set up a musical theatre company in new York to give other would-be show business stars exposure at the start of their careers.
Former Sandringham School pupil Nicholas Agard-Smith, 23, a singer, dancer, and actor who has just graduated from a Broadway theatre school, has formed a company under the name What's the Benefit? Inc.
the productions, featuring original songs written by Nicholas – stage name Nicco Franklin – and his two partners, are themed around the charitable causes they support, and will be mounted at major Broadway theatres in between professional shows.
his father Nick, who lives in Woodstock Road South, said: "As parents we are obviously proud of Nicco's talents and achievements.
"We are also extremely proud that Nicco, while studying, auditioning and performing, thought of the idea, instigated and has set up What’s the Benefit? Inc. with two like-minded friends.
"It's a not-for-profit and charitable company.
"It’s an ongoing attempt to provide a showcase for newly qualified and up-and-coming performers who would not otherwise have an opportunity to perform on Broadway.
"Nicco is now constantly fundraising for good causes. his ambition is to expand the initiative to become a trans-Atlantic concern."
the company's first musical theatre production in the autumn, inspired by stories of adoption, will raise money for an agency that matches unwanted children with people willing to look after them.
