Everything you need to know about sci-fi TV this week

Lost finally returns, thank God! Time to get past the hype of what might happen and on to what actually happens.

There's also a major Smallville movie event that revels in superheroes galore AND Kristin Kreuk goes Nerd Herd in Chuck, Peter tries to save Sylar on Heroes, The Vampire Diaries flashes back to Katherine's troublemaking days, Sam and Dean go back in time to save their parents from an angel on Supernatural, worlds collide on Fringe, Margaret Cho joins Ghost Whisperer, and Demons ends its run.

Here's what we have to look forward to on sci-fi, action, and paranormal TV this week.

MONDAY, FEB. 1Chuck (NBC) 8 p.m."Chuck Versus the Nacho Sampler"

Kristin Kreuk puts on her Nerd Herd outfit and Sarah goes pro in "Chuck Versus the Nacho Sampler." The Nerd Herd deals with having a girl in the mix, while Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) gets paired with Shaw. Meanwhile, Morgan (Joshua Gomez) and Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) are on a mission of their own to figure out what's up with Chuck's strange behavior.

"In 'Chuck Versus the Nacho Sampler,' Chuck has to actually recruit an agent, to turn someone who is a member of a bad-guy organization and make him work for him," said executive producer Chris Fedak. So far this season the episodes have "led up to Chuck mastering a spy skill and learning how to be a hero. Hopefully he'll make it to be a hero and not get killed." (Which would be a bummer, in our opinion.)

Heroes (NBC) 9 p.m."The Wall"

There's only one more episode before we say goodbye to Heroes, at least for this season. In "The Wall," when Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) has visions of Emma (Deanne Bray) in danger, he finds himself trying to save Sylar (Zachary Quinto) from the bad guy's worst nightmare. Samuel (Robert Knepper) tries to work his manipulations on Claire (Hayden Panettiere) when it comes to H.R.G. (Jack Coleman), and Lauren (Elisabeth Rohm) goes after Samuel.

"Our plans are to end this year, whether it's the last year or not, in a world-changing way," said executive producer Adam Amus. "Whether or not we continue the next year, or not it will lead to future inspiration for whoever thinks about these characters. Whether they exist on other platforms or whether they exist on television or whether it doesn't exist at all anymore, it will lead your imagine to 'Oh, my goodness, the world has changed now, and what does that mean?" However, Amus hopes they do get another year, because "we have more stories to tell."

24 (Fox) 9 p.m."Day 8: 9:00 PM-10:00 PM"

Renee Walker (Annie Wersching) tries to broker a deal with an arms dealer, while Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) gets even with Arlo Glass (John Boyd) in this latest hour. Meanwhile, the peace process is jeopardized because of the turmoil in the Hassan family.

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 9:30 p.m."The Einstein Approximation"

Sheldon (Jim Parsons) attempts to solve a physics problem by working with Penny (Kaley Cuoco). What could possibly go wrong?

TUESDAY, FEB. 2Lost: Final Chapter (ABC) 8 p.m.

Want to catch up with Lost? This special recap goes over all the questions that have been answered—and those that haven't. If you don't want to spend an hour getting caught up, you can check out the "Lost Starter Kit" video above, which will bring you up to speed for the start of the season-six premiere in just four minutes and change.

Lost (ABC) 9 p.m. "LA X"

Season premiere!

Are you ready to get answers to all your questions? Too bad. There's a whole season to go through before we get to the really good stuff. But it all starts with the two-hour season premiere of the sixth and final season, "LA X," which will at least tell us what happened after Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) detonated the hydrogen bomb.

And other Tuesday shows of interest

Syfy puts on a Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon (8 a.m.- 9 p.m.), which includes the the splendid series finale, "All Good Things…", at 7 p.m. A&E's Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal (9 p.m.) helps two of the kids overcome their fears in the season finale, "Spirits Among Us." On the channel's Paranormal State (10 p.m.) the PRS team investigates a Pennsylvania home that may be haunted by a little boy in "Lost Souls." And A&E winds up its ghostly evening when the Paranormal Cops (10:30 p.m.) begin "Stirring Up the Dead" after renovations cause reports of spirit activity at the Stag's Head restaurant and bar.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 3Human Target (Fox) 8 p.m."Sanctuary"

Everything you need to know about sci fi TV this week Image

Chance (Mark Valley) takes on the case of a former criminal, John Gray (Sam Huntington), who's hiding out in the Canadian Appalachian mountains. "Nowhere in the world is off limits, so we go from 30,000 feet in a plane that may be crashing to a secluded monastery in the mountains of Canada," said executive producer Jonathan Steinberg. "'Sanctuary' is about a guy whose former gang is coming back after him to settle a score. It's a little bit of western setup, but in a monastery on top of a mountain." It looks like his former partners in crime are after a cache of religious relics, along with some good old-fashioned revenge. Lost's William Mapother also guest-stars.

Ghost Hunters International (Syfy) 9 p.m."Tasmania Death Sentence"Dustin holds court while the TAPS team investigates the Supreme Court in Hobart in Tasmania. Visitors and staff report seeing apparitions and a green mist and hearing disembodied voices. And other Wednesday shows of interest

History's MonsterQuest (9 p.m.) goes in search of "Giant Killer Bees," we're guessing because Regular Killer Bees aren't scary enough. The time-traveling Erica plays mommy on SOAPnet's Being Erica (10 p.m.) in "Mama Mia." On TNT's Leverage (10 p.m.), it's "The Future Job," when the team takes on a con man who masquerades as a psychic medium to steal money from his clients. When it comes to fake psychics, maybe TNT's feeling a little competition now that it's facing USA's Psych at 10 p.m.

THURSDAY, FEB. 4The Vampire Diaries (The CW) 8 p.m."Children of the Damned"

Katherine's back!

It's back to 1864 to find out what went down between Katherine, Stefan and Damian that destroyed the brothers' relationship in "Children of the Damned." Bonnie (Katerina Graham) goes on a date with Ben (Sean Faris), and we're guessing she finds out his secret. Elena (Nina Dobrev) hunts for a journal from an ancestor that might hold the secret to releasing Katherine, and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) discovers someone he knows is in town. Dexter's James Remar guest-stars as the brothers' dad, Giuseppe Salvatore, and Kelly Hu takes on the role of Pearl, a friend of Katherine's.

Bones (Fox) 8 p.m."The Devil in the Details"

Could it be … Satan? Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) are on the case involving remains of a former mental patient who appears more than a little demonic in "The Devil in the Details." Meanwhile, Brennan's intern Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) has a secret. West Wing's Joshua Malina guest-stars as Dr. Adam Copeland.

Fringe (Fox) 9 p.m."Jacksonville"

Winter finale!

This big mythology episode will have to keep us warm through Fringe's seven-week winter break while Past Life steals off with its timeslot. Somehow, a bizarre seismic event rattles a Manhattan office building to its core, leaving only one "otherworldly" survivor (Jim True-Frost). So of course that leads Walter (John Noble) and the crew to "Jacksonville," Fla., to investigate what the Manhattan event might have to do with experiments our favorite mad scientist conducted in the past. Naturally, this all ties in to what happened when Olivia (Anna Torv) was a kid and, somehow, that all adds up to what happens when "worlds collide." Huh?

"Olivia will find this season that in order to identify and defeat the bad guy, she's going to have to … allow herself to be open to what Walter and William Bell did to her as a kid," said executive producer Jeff Pinkner. "She's going to have to allow these inherent abilities of hers to come to the surface so that she can identify and then stop the people who are trying to open up the corridor to the other side. And she may fail."

Supernatural (The CW) 9 p.m."The Song Remains the Same"

Maybe we should actually call this one The Angelic Supernatural Terminator. Anna (Julie McNiven) is ordered by the angels to go back in time to 1978 to kill Sam and Dean's parents so they can stop Sam (Jared Padalecki) from being conceived, which would mean he wouldn't be able to become a vessel for Lucifer in the future in "The Song Remains the Same." So of course, Castiel (Misha Collins) sends Sam and Dean (Jensen Ackles) back to 1978 to stop her, and they get to meet their parents.

And other Thursday shows of interest

In FX's Archer (10 p.m.), Malory has to turn to Archer for help when a sensitive videotape falls into Cuban hands in "Honeypot." And in USA's Burn Notice (10 p.m.), Michael helps his drug-dealing neighbor take on notorious thieves in "Noble Causes."

FRIDAY, FEB. 5Smallville: Absolute Justice (The CW) 8 p.m.

Special two-hour movie!

The past and present collide to protect the world from the villainous Icicle (Wesley Macinnes) in this two-hour Smallville movie that seems to be channeling more than a little Watchmen. Stargate's Michael Shanks dons a cowl, costume and 'tude as Hawkman, who used be a member of the Justice Society of America, which protected the world before Smallville's heroes. Clark (Tom Welling) and gang meet the Justice Society's heroes of the past, Hawkman, Dr. Fate (Andromeda's Brent Stait) and Star Girl (Britt Irvin), and eventually the heroes must join forces to kick bad-guy butt. Meanwhile, Lois gets a package from an agency called Checkmate. Phil Morris reprises his role as Martian Manhunter, and Pam Grier becomes a recurring character named Amanda Waller, the head of Checkmate. Welling directed the second hour, while Glen Winters directed the first hour and Geoff Johns wrote the script.

"It's the first time our characters realize that there was a group out there doing what they're doing long before they ever came on the scene, and it kind of propels them and galvanizes them toward the rest of the season," added executive producer Brian Peterson.

"It originally was supposed to be a one-hour episode, but so much work went into creating those characters and the sets and the design of doing the Justice Society that we didn't want to miss out," said executive producer Kelly Souders. "It allowed us to … expand and get into the characters a little bit further."

Ghost Whisperer (CBS) 8 p.m."Dead to Me"

Margaret Cho joins the cast!

Comedian/actress Margaret Cho joins the cast in a recurring role as Ned's (Christoph Sanders) occult anthropology professor, Avery Grant. However, unfortunately for her it's no comedy when her ghostly secret admirer tries to break up her new romance in "Dead to Me."

"The episode is moving and exciting and has to do with Ouija boards," said executive producer P.K. Simonds. Cho's character is "a very funny character, but she's introduced in an episode that's very moving and comic, of course. You can't do something with Margaret Cho and not be funny. … With her area of expertise, it helps us find some explanations for some strange new things going on. We're still trying to sort out what are the rules for these Shadows and Shinies."

Caprica (Syfy) 9 p.m."Reins of a Waterfall"

Amanda Graystone's (Paula Malcomson) confession about Zoe's terrorist involvement sends shockwaves through the Colonies in "Reins of a Waterfall." Meanwhile, Zoe (Alessandra Torresani) continues to adjust to living life as a robot, and in V-World she meets Tamara Adama (Genevieve Buechner), who doesn't understand how she came to be there.

Medium (CBS) 9 p.m."Will the Real Fred Rovick Please Stand Up?"

Poor Allison! Not only can't she get any sleep, in "Will the Real Fred Rovick Please Stand Up?" she's having trouble during the day, too. While trying to solve a murder, suddenly everyone, including Joe (Jake Weber), begins to look like some guy named Fred Rovick (The Drew Carey Show's Diedrich Bader). Meanwhile, Ariel's (Sofia Vassilieva) babysitting job becomes a challenge.

"In that episode, Allison (Patricia Arquette) is seeing the same man's face everywhere she looks, when she looks at Scanlon, her husband, people at a crime scene, everywhere she goes there is this one guy's face superimposed over friends, strangers … she can't escape this guy," said executive producer Craig Sweeney. "He reoccurs everywhere she goes, and she's got to figure out who is he, why is this guy is everywhere in her life all of a sudden." Sweeney wrote the episode with executive producer Robert Doherty.

Spartacus: Blood & Sand (Starz) 10 p.m."Legends"

With Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) striking "a chord with the public's interest," he maneuvers an opportunity to battle Crixus (Manu Bennett) at an important competition. Meanwhile, Crixus's popularity with the noble ladies doesn't hinder his attraction to one of Lucretia's slaves.

And other Friday shows of interest

In the Cartoon Network's Batman: The Brave and the Bold (7:30 p.m.), Batman gets caught in a lab explosion and split into three parts in "A Bat Divided." In Animal Planet's The Haunted (10 p.m.), a family is terrorized by a spirit in their new home in "The Door." And on the Travel Channel's Most Haunted (10 p.m.), visitors have reported paranormal activity at the "Inveraray Jail," a jail and courthouse build in 1820.

SATURDAY, FEB. 6Demons (BBC America) 9 p.m."Nothing Like Nebraska"

Series finale!

With ITV confirming they aren't planning a second season, it looks like this is the last we'll see of Demons. In "Nothing Like Nebraska," Gladiolus Thrip (Mackenzie Crook) is back from the dead to cause some trouble as he takes an unhealthy interest in Luke's past. Meanwhile, Luke (Christian Cooke) is haunted by dreams about his father's death in the car crash and Galvin's (Philip Glenister) part in it, which causes a rift between the two smiters.

The Cursed (Syfy) 9 p.m.

Syfy's Saturday Night at the Movies!

You've got to love small towns with evil secrets just bursting to get out on a cold Syfy Saturday night. While doing research for a book, a writer accidentally wakes up something wicked in a Tennessee town, causing big problems for the little town. Costas Mandylor, Brad Thornton and Louis Mandylor star in the film, directed by Joel Bender.

SUNDAY, FEB. 7Ghost Hunters marathon (Syfy) 9:00 a.m.-1:00 a.m. – Season 5

Steve and Tango make a pact at Fort Henry.

If you want to catch up or revisit season five, here's your chance. The TAPS team visits Essex County Penitentiary, Fort Henry, the Congress Theater, Pensacola Lighthouse, the Mark Twain House and the Hindenburg crash site.

Are you ready for the beginning of Lost's final season and the end of Demons?
