When you picture the golden years of your life, many things come to mind. Golf courses. Florida. Retirement communities. False teeth. What it doesn't bring to mind is playing beer pong, hosting a sketch comedy show and starring in your own sitcom, but that's exactly what Betty White has been up to in the year leading up to her big 90th birthday, which she celebrates today in serious style.
For this nonagenarian, birthday celebrations included a star-studded TV special that aired Monday night on NBC with appearances from A-list celebrities like Tina Fey, Ellen DeGeneres, Seth Meyers, Mary Tyler Moore Ray Romano and more, and a special message from none other than President Barack Obama, reported Syracuse.com.
"I can't believe you're 90 years old," Obama said in a taped message. "Will you please produce a copy of your long-form birth certificate?"
White, whose 60-plus-year career in Hollywood includes roles on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Golden Girls, Password and Hot in Cleveland, said in the NBC special A Tribute to America's Golden Girl that she feels lucky to still be working in the business she loves so much.
"I've been the luckiest old broad on two feet for one thing," White said. "It's such a privilege to be at this age and still be working. That doesn't happen that often and I'm deeply grateful."
According to Allvoices.com, White said that after the large celebration in her honor, she would be spending her actual birthday doing crossword puzzles and playing with her Golden Retriever Pontiac.
The special ended with the celebrity guests joining together for a version of Golden GIrls theme song "Thank You for Being a Friend," and showed a preview for White's next project, a hidden camera show called Betty White's Of Their Rockers.
