Charleston – Huntington West Virginia NewsMailyn Chandler: Fighting cancer at age 6
Mailyn Chandler first stole viewers' hearts when 13News met her during December 2010.
The positive 6-year-old is with her family at the Ronald McDonald house in Huntington while she receives daily treatments at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
"She's been getting radiation everyday since Jan. 3 and undergoing chemotherapy. She has four more radiation treatments, then about a year and a half of chemotherapy left," said Amy Chandler, Mailyn's mother.
Throughout her time in Huntington, Mailyn has had strangers send her gifts, money and support. The outpouring of generosity has helped Mailyn and her family continue the battle of fighting cancer.
According to Children's Cancer Fund of America, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer every day. It's a statistic that is on the Chandler's mind every day. Mailyn has made close friends at the hospital with other children fighting cancer.
With strength, a positive attitude, and a song always on her mind, Mailyn "never complains no matter how bad she feels," said her mother.
Mailyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in 2008. When she relapsed in September 2010, she was diagnosed with a very rare form of the disease.
