Gregory Hyzdu was awarded a bachelor of arts degree from Assumption College in Worcester at the 93rd commencement ceremony on May 15. Hyzdu majored in business management. he is the son of Scott and Barbara Hyzdu of North Andover.

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund recently awarded a college scholarship to Amy Machain, a graduate of Andover High School, who will be attending Quinnipiac University in 2010. Machain was one of 160 new recipients who received an award this year and was recognized for academic achievement, as well as notable community, school and work activities.

Methuen native and Merrimack College junior Amanda Persichetti will intern in a Harvard University physics lab this summer. Persichetti, a double major in physics and mathematics at Merrimack, is interning at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, as part of the SAO Solar Physics Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program. her project involves modeling magnetic fields, and she hopes to have her name on a published research paper. last summer, she earned a paid summer research opportunity through the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. she spent part of the summer with applied mathematics researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she analyzed traffic flow patterns. at college, Persichetti is vice president of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority and recently won "Greek Woman of the Year." she has traveled to Pennsylvania and Virginia as part of Alternative Spring Break, a weeklong community service program offered through the college. she is president of the Physics Club and treasurer of the Math Club.
