College Football Predictions – 2010 Nebraska Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers had the best team they have had in many years in 2009-10, the Cornhuskers came within one play of spoiling the Texas Longhorns season in the Big 12 title game, Texas hit a field goal with no time remaining on the clock for a 13-12 win. Nebraska will have to replace the best defensive lineman this sports handicappers has ever seen in Ndamukong Suh, Suh won about every award a defensive lineman could have won in the College Football Picks landscape. He even placed high in the Heisman trophy balloting and was the #2 overall pick in the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions.
Coach Bo Pelini knows that replacing Suh may be impossible but he team is loaded, the Huskers had the nation tops defense in points allowed with an average of 10.4 per game, 9th in rushing yards giving up only 93 per game and were ranked 7th in total yards giving a little over 271 yards per game. The offense was a different story, as good as the defense was the offense was as bad. The team ranked near the bottom of nearly every category in college football and that is reason for concern. Bo Pelini knows that if his team has got a chance at competing in a BCS game the offense has to get better in 2010-11.
Niles Paul, Roy Helu Jr and Mike McNeil will provide Nebraska with the best group of skilled players the program has had in years. The offensive line returns 4 starters from last year, Quarterback Zac Lee returns as the signal caller for the team, he started 12 of 14 games last year and a year of experience will help. Lee missed spring drills and that allowed Cody Green and Taylor Martinez to gain some valuable experience that could help the team. Roy Helu rushed for 1,147 yards last year as a junior but he will again be challenged by Rex Burkhead. Wide receiver Niles Paul caught 40 passes for 796 yards in 2009 and will provide Nebraska with a big play threat.
The defense will be led by tackle Jared Crick, Crick received 1st team all Big 12 honors last year with 9' sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Sophomore Baker Steinkuhler was Suh's back up last year and will plat beside Crick this year. The linebackers will be solid with Will Compton being the best player at the position. Nebraska will have the best tandem of cornerbacks they have had in a long time and Prince Amukamara the best the school has had since Fabian Washington, who was a 1st round NFL draft picks, Amukamara will also be a 1st rounder. The Cornhusker safeties will be ready to play also. I think Nebraska surprised a lot of people around the nation in 2009 but the Huskers are back, look for them to win the Big 12 north again this year and will go 11-1 in the regular season. Everyone has bought into Bo Pelini and so have I.
