Generation X celebrity news: Halle Berry, Jesse James, Kurt Cobain
This was a busy week for Gen X celebrities. It was a serious case of the good, the bad and the downright sad for some famous folks.
Halle Berry’s alleged stalker, Richard A. Franco, 27, pled not guilty to two felonies for three different incidents where he was spotted on Berry’s property. In his latest incident, Franco was caught breaking into a building at Berry’s Hollywood Hills Home. Scary stuff. His court date is set for next week.
It’s been an up and down week for Jesse James. He announced his split up with Kat Von D, was awarded sole custody of his daughter after a year’s long bitter battle with his ex-wife over the child and then the same ex-wife (he’s had three) was arrested for harassing James. A roller coaster week for Jesse.
Reality star vs Casey Anthony
TV reality star and creator of the Skinny Girl Margaritas, Bethenny Frankel, recently tweeted about the possible bidding war going on for an interview with Casey Anthony, “Ashamed to live in a world where people will pay that despicable mother who is now a free woman. Please boycott anything about her.” I could not agree more, it is despicable. ABC and NBC now say they will not pay for an interview with Anthony..but what about the other networks?
This year marks the 30th anniversary of MTV! Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes will be part of a Sirius XM Radio '80s program about it that will be airing Aug. 1. Gosh, remember when MTV actually played music videos? Sweet memories.
She was a teen singing sensation in the 80’s, America’s pop sweetheart. Now Gen Xer Debbie Gibson is playing Katy Perry’s mother! Gibson portrays the role in Perry’s video for her song “Last Friday Night”. Don’t feel too old Gen X, Gibson is only 40 and Perry is 26, so really, she is stretching to take the role!
A proposal to rename a bridge in Washington for Kurt Cobain was nixed. The Aberdeen City Council voted no on renaming the bridge over the underpass where Cobain sometimes slept. But not to despair Nirvana fans, the city council did name a strip of land near the Wishkah River for Cobain. Apparently there is already a guitar statue and plaque in memory of Cobain in a park close by.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, former Texas Rangers and New York Yankees pitcher Hideki Irabu was found dead of an apparent suicide in his suburban Los Angeles home on Wednesday. He was 42. RIP.
