Facebook did mention a few downsides to setting up a secure connection. Encrypted pages might take longer to load, and some features and third-party applications are not currently supported by the secure connection.

Keep in mind that this new setting only applies to Facebook’s website, and not any of its mobile applications. Facebook has already begun rolling out this new option, but says it may take up to several weeks to complete.

In addition to the secure connections, Facebook is also planning to add a social authentication feature. when Facebook detects suspicious activity (such as signing-in from a different country in the same day), Facebook will ask you to identify your friends in a few selected pictures. much like ‘Captcha’ (which asks you to type in the displayed, distorted words), social authentication will be used to confirm your identity before proceeding.
