Yes I admit it, I like American Idol. I'm not a closet fan, my friends and family know it well. It is the topic of conversation and analysis every Wednesday and Thursday morning.

I wasn't a fan from the beginning though. I began watching the year Carrie Underwood won it all, 2005 I think it was(which coincided with my interest in modern country music).

Many people were upset about the departure of Paula Abdul, however I was certainly in the minority. Her responses were in my opinion, lacking substance and clarity of thought.

So now Paula's gone, in comes Ellen Degeneres.

I've been looking at some of the posts on the American Idol forums and quite a few people claim she is the wrong choice while others will refuse to watch the show altogether.

The complaints range from her qualifications of having an interest and love of music where people who voice this complaint say but who watches the show doesn't, to a lesser extent her sexuality.

Another issue was Paula Abdul had a very large and loyal fan base. Many people liked her passionate way of handling contestants, never to criticize too much and certainly not to the extent of the highly critical and lucid Simon Cowell.

I'm not a fan of her show or her comedy, never watched either. But the question is, is she qualified to be a judge on American Idol?

I'm willing to give her a chance because of one isolated case. As I said, I've never watched her show, however we do watch satellite Filipino television in our house. This is where I learned of how Ellen spotted a 15 year old singing talent out of the Philippines named Charice Pempengco, and this girl has pipes.

In this case Ellen certainly showed me that she can spot singing talent so I'm willing to give her a chance.
