James Cameron's Avatar is a sci-fi thriller that takes place 100 years from now. The humans have destroyed Earth and are off on other planets continuing their same bad habits. In the movie, humans are on the moon called Pandora, mining a very precious metal. There's just one catch.the beings of Pandora called the Na'vi don't want them there.

James Cameron wrote this script in 1994, three years before he made the Titanic. He lucidly dreamed the entire world of Pandora which is filled with fantastical creatures, and plants.all of them bioluminescent. But to create his world on film he not only had to wait for technology to catch up he invented special cameras as well.

The results are out beyond..well, this world

In addition to filming the movie in 2D the movie was also filmed in 3D. The 3D movie has helped it become one of only 5 movies to sell over $1 billion dollars of tickets. And it did this in 17 days The Titanic holds the record, but its record will probably be broken by the end of January.

The Na'vi on Pandora are 10 foot tall humanoid figures created on computer.but realistcally capture the actors every facial expression and body movement. This is because of the special cameras that James Cameron invented. He also had a linguistic professor invent the Na'vi language (which will rival in popularity Klingon from Star Trek and Elvish from Lord of the Rings in the near future). And he had special choreographers work with the actors so that they could move in the unique, fluid way of the Na'vi.

When asked why he made the Na'vi blue, James Cameron's response was that he didn't want to make them small, green men
