IOWA CITY (KWWL) –
Three Iowa City men are facing drug charges following an overdose death that happened in 2010.
Twenty-three year-old Matthew Lou Schwebach, 25-year-old Christopher Lee Schwebach, and 23-year-old Alex Christopher Hannam are all charged after police say they found drugs in their rooms while investigating the overdose death of their 22-year-old roommate on March 14, 2010.
Officers say they were called to 1136 E. Burlington Street around 10:45 p.m. on March 14, 2010 for a report of a 22-year-old not breathing.
Officers say a preliminary investigation showed he had died of a drug overdose. Police got a search warrant to investigate the death and say they found drugs. That led officers to get a second search warrant to look for drugs in the home.
During the search, officers say they found cocaine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, cash, scales and packaging materials. Police say it was clear that the home was being used by all the residents to use and sell drugs.
Police say Christopher Schwebach and Alex Hannam admitted that they and the others were using and selling the drugs.
Matthew Schwebach is charged with possession of a controlled substance and keeping a drug house.
Alex Hannam is charged with a controlled substance violation and keeping a drug house.
Christopher Schwebach is charged with a controlled substance violation, possession of a controlled substance and keeping a drug house.
When officers went to arrest Christopher Schwebach on the 2010 drug charges Friday morning at his home at 730 E. Burlington Street, they say they found marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a pipe. Officers say Schwebach told them about the items before the consent search and admitted they were his. Schwebach now faces a second charge of possession of a controlled substance as a result.
