Oscar Watch Starts For George Clooney, ‘Ides’ Image

Of the 12 movies in the "Oscar Watch" list in the new "Entertainment Weekly," George Clooney makes it twice. In addition to "The Ides of March," he's also mentioned for starring in "The Descendants" due out Thanksgiving.

He's all over the Fall Movie Preview double edition for Aug. 19 & Aug. 26. Clooney is featured in the "Hollywood Insider" column (Page 21), plus there's a two-page "Oscar buzz" spread on "Ides" (Pages 51-52) with 3 photos (two of Clooney, one of Ryan Gosling), and a smaller "Oscar buzz" story on "The Descendants" with a photo of Clooney and Shailene Woodley (Page 64).

You know that "Ides" was shot here in February, and stars Gosling as a campaign press manager for a governor (Clooney) running for president who considers joining the rival campaign staff just before the Ohio primary. In "The Descendants," EW says Clooney plays "a Hawaiian land baron who se life is upended after his wife (Patricia Hastie) goes into a coma and he learns that she'd been having an affair." It's directed by Alexander Payne ("Sideways"). Both films will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival starting Sept. 8.
