Charlie Sheen’s new FX series, Anger Management, which will be his first television work since he was fired from Two and a Half Men, has just picked its two lead actresses. Selma Blair and Shawnee Smith have been cast to play his therapist and ex-wife, respectively.

Sheen had actually mentioned Blair as a possibility in an Access Hollywood interview last month. At the time, he called her a “strong frontrunner.” He added, “She’s a very special lady and is as pretty as the day is long and has never really had the opportunity to do something where she can shine, because off camera she’s hilarious.”

The Wrap reported Saturday that Blair was officially hired for the role of Sheen’s therapist and potential love interest. Blair’s last starring role in a television series was in NBC’s short-lived Kath & Kim series from 2008 to 2009. She also appeared in Legally Blonde and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith’s role as Sheen’s ex-wife is billed by the show’s producers as a sexy woman who doesn’t have it all together. The couple divorces after she discovers Sheen cheating, but they still remain friends and raise their daughter together.

Smith is best known for appearing in the Saw films, but also starred in Becker, which ran 130 episodes. Her work on Becker gives Management’s producers the confidence that the series could sustain the 100-episode order FX gave the series, according to the Hollywood Reporter. FX ordered 10 episodes to air and if those are a success, an additional 90 will be produced.

Bruce Helford will act as showrunner, with Lionsgate producing the show.

Zap2It reports that shooting begins in March with the first episode airing in June. Anger Management is an adaptation of the 2003 Adam Sandler/Jack Nicholson film of the same name.
