Steven Spielberg's Preproduction Best Movies

Steven Spielberg’s Preproduction Best Movies Image

Steven Spielberg is what I would call the movie fan's director/producer. not all of his movies are Oscar worthy but the vast majority of them are well liked by the average Joe movie fan. I do not think he cares as much as to if the critics will like his finished product as he is concerned if you and I enjoy his production. With that said he still certainly has his share of awards, 3 Oscars along with an additional 113 wins and 79 nominations. if I had to pick my all time favorite director / producer it would be Steven Spielberg. He has directed and or produced so many films that I truly enjoy and watch repeatedly that I dare not even try to list them in a short article.

When me researched Steven Spielberg's preproduction movies I was somewhat disappointed to see he has slowed down in his directorial work. He has 2 movies yet to hit the theaters, an animated film "the Adventures of Tintin: the Secret of the Unicorn" that is in post production, and a film that has been announced but not yet in the preproduction stage "Interstellar" which looks very interesting in concept but since it is not to be released until 2013 it will be awhile before enough details come out to get to excited.

Now when I did the research I did find that he has been a very active producer with many films on the horizon. He has 2 movies announced and confirmed but not yet in preproduction, he has 2 movies in post production and 5 movies in preproduction (along with some work in TV to fill his spare time).

The 5 movies in preproduction that I found when searching for Steven Spielberg's preproduction movies were "When Worlds Collide" (2010), "True Grit" (2010), "Transformers 3" (2011), "Cowboys and Aliens" (2011) and "Real Steel" (2011).

Now "Cowboys and Aliens" is a movie he is working on with Ron Howard. I wrote in a similar article I did on Howard that the plot and actors involved lead me to believe that the only thing that might salvage this movie is the skills of Spielberg and Howard. is it truly possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? we will see.

"Transformers 3" is a sequel that needs little in the way of analysis; we know pretty much what we will get. if we liked the first two we will probably want to see this one as well.

The last 3 movies I found for Steven Spielberg's preproduction movies that he will be producing are the ones I want to take a closer look at.

"When Worlds Collide" is a remake of a 1951 classic of the same name. it is what I classify as an apocalyptic drama which I always seem to gravitate to and enjoy despite quite often being treated to substandard quality. that will not be the case here with Spielberg as producer. Directing the movie will be Stephen Sommers ("Catch me if You Can"). having directed the "War of the Worlds" which I enjoyed I am hoping Spielberg can work the same magic on this film as producer. two planets colliding, the world will come to an end, oh my!

"True Grit" is another remake of an earlier 1969 John Wayne movie which I personally think will be an outstanding movie. Directed by Ethan and Joel Coen and with an excellent cast of Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld, I see where Spielberg is going all out to make this an excellent movie. I understand that although the plot is basically the same (14 year old girl pairs up with 2 lawmen to find the killer of her father) it will follow more closely the Charles Portis' original novel that it is adapted from.

"Real Steel" is directed by Shawn Levy and stars an excellent actor Hugh Jackman ("X-Men: the Last Stand"). In this futuristic drama you will find 2000 pound robots boxing (boxing is illegal in the future setting so robots take the ring) which leads me to believe there will be a lot of cool special effects. This should be entertaining with a current release date of 11/18/2011.

That is all I have room for in this article on Steven Spielberg's preproduction movies. I will try and expand on Steven Spielberg and his legacy in film in a future article.
