SWIMMING: Bucs down Vikings; Cabrini falls to Fordson
The Riverview swim team made a long trip south to Dundee on Tuesday and drove back with a 107-74 victory in the Bucs’ first swim meet of 2012.“The kids are training really hard just like everybody else,” Coach Sean Kelly said. “They’re doing really well and they’ve really bought into everything we’re trying to do here.”The Bucs turned in several first place finishes as Erik Davis won the 200 and 500 freestyle, Jake Hosier won the IM and breaststroke, Nick Guthrie took the fly and Phil Molino won the backstroke.Riverview also dominated the relays with victories in the 200-medley (Nathan Peters, Hosier, Guthrie, Ryan Pickell), the 200-free (Guthrie, Peters, Pickell, Brendon Adams) and 400-free (Peters, Guthrie, Adams, Dakota Roehler).“(Brendon) Adams swam great and Morgan Gardocki didn’t place first, but he swam his best time in every race he was in,” Kelly said. “The kids are training really hard.”The Bucs hosted Cabrini yesterday.Fordson nips CabriniIn Cabrini’s first meet of the New Year, the Monarch’s came up just short to Fordson in a narrow 48-43 defeat on Tuesday.The Tractors started off strong with big finishes in the 50-free, 500-free and butterfly early in the meet.The Monarchs charged back with first-place finishes from Katie Krawczyk in the backstroke, Jacob Burke in the breaststroke and as a team in the 400-freestyle relay (Krawczyk, Danielle Misovich, Lillian Thomson, Conor McAfee), but they could not close the gap completely as Fordson escaped with the victory.
