Taylor Momsen Quits Acting and Other Stars Who've Done the Same

Taylor Momsen has all eyes on her after announcing that she is calling her acting career off. Like many successful stars on a hit series, she left "Gossip Girl" at the height of her fame. Now, she's confessed that it's more than just the show that she's left behind.
Taylor told Elle, "I quit acting, actually. I quit 'Gossip Girl' and now tour and am in a band, and that's pretty much all I want to do. Hopefully I'll be able to only do that for the rest of my life."
She's not the only young starlet to swear off acting, though. During the summer of 2010, Amanda Bynes announced that, at the age of 24, she was retiring. She took to her Twitter account and stated that acting wasn't fun and therefore she was retiring. Luckily for her fans, she announced that she was now "unretired" only a month later, as reported by US Magazine.
In 2003, Entertainment Weekly announced that young star Freddie Prinze, Jr. planned to quit acting in the upcoming years. He took a more serious approach to the decision, confiding that, "'I'm going to stop acting in the next few years because it's just too weird, You have to constantly be willing to live in a scary, emotional place, which is why actors are in therapy all the time." However, luckily for his fans, he never did manage to retire from acting and was most recently seen in an episode of "Psych" in 2010.
Mena Suvari, Alec Baldwin and Joaquin Phoenix are just some of the stars who have recently expressed an interest in the cessation of their acting careers. Perhaps an actor whose announced retirement is understandable, although extremely disappointing, to all is that of Sir Sean Connery. The movie star has been delighting fans since he first appeared on television in 1954. After a long, successful and very varied career, he bowed out from acting after a bad experience during the filming of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."
