The Arctic Northern Lights Are an Amazing Natural Phenomenon
The Arctic Northern Lights, or also known as Aurora Borealis, are in fact very amazing phenomenon as well as being great for sightseeing. There are a large number of people that are willing to travel a very long distance just in order to have a look at the Auroras. But to some people, they are still asking how such a thing can possibly happen. Yet, it is indeed possible.
The Arctic Northern Lights are caused by the interactions of the sun and the outer atmosphere of the earth. These lights show up because the ions – or particles that are charged electrically – that are emitted by the sun attempt to go further from the sun in the form of a plasma stream which is also called as solar wind by people. Then, when the plasma touches the magnetic field of the earth, the ions will be making their way rounding the earth.
However, some of them are trapped and as a result, the trapped ions will come in contact with the ionosphere of the earth which is located some 60 to 80 miles beyond the surface and this is in fact what causes the ions to emit lights.
To be able to see these lights, people will have a better chance in case they head to the northern part. As a matter of fact, it is often the case that these lights should show up half of the nights at the very minimum during the period of one entire year. Yet, when winter comes, an even higher frequency of the Arctic Northern Lights occurrence can be expected.
