The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trailer finds its way out
"Goth Pippi Longstocking" … Lisbeth Salander is played by Rooney Mara in the hotly anticipated English language version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Debate is raging over how the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo got online. Was it leaked from a European theatre or did Sony turn a blind eye to create a publicity buzz?
The trailer, sort of adults-only with a blink-and-you-miss-it nudity shot, has been racking up visits as word got out.
The trailer for the David Fincher-directed movie assumes knowledge of the Stieg Larsson book series, doing away with traditional narrative and using a series of quick cuts and a Led Zeppelin cover by Trent Reznor and Karen O.

But what you can make out is captivating: snow-covered roads, a car accident on a bridge, a bloody-faced Daniel Craig, a hanging body and gripping motorcycle chases.
In the story, based on Larsson's bestselling novel, Lisbeth Salander (played by Rooney Mara) is an adept hacker with a photographic memory who joins forces with a journalist, Mikael Blomkvist (Craig), to uncover the truth about a 40-year-old murder.
Mara, who also appeared in Fincher's The Social Network as a girl who dumps the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, beat out a slew of bigger-name actresses to snag the coveted role of the "goth Pippi Longstocking" Lisbeth, including Ellen Page and Carey Mulligan.
Posted on SlashFilm.com, this "red-band" version – age-restricted due to some nudity – was released in Europe last week.
Supposedly leaked, it looks as if it is shot off a theatre screen, but is suspected to be a viral video since the MPAA red-band restrictions only apply in the US.
The official green-band trailer will be released worldwide tomorrow.
