Ugly Betty actor is charged after slicing off mother's head in Bible rant
MICHAEL Brea, an actor who once appeared in the former hit ABC series "ugly Betty," has been charged after decapitating his mother with a samurai sword in her Brooklyn home.
Ugly Betty actor Michael Brea has been charged with the murder of his mother, the new York Times reports.
Michael Brea, 31, killed his mother Yannick Brea, 55, with a three-foot (90cm) sword after an argument in the early hours of Tuesday in their Prospect Heights, Brooklyn apartment, police said.
Neighbours told CBS affiliate WCBS that they heard the 31-year-old actor screaming Bible verses and saying "repent" as he apparently chased his mother through the home.
Michael Brea asked his mother “if she believed in God,” and then asked her “to repent,” Greg Clare, a neighbour, said.
When police officers arrived at the apartment, they found Yannick Brea dead and the actor barricaded in a bedroom holding the sword.
The victim, identified as 55-year-old Yannick Brea, was dead when officers arrived Tuesday at 2:20 a.m. Sources told new York station WPIX that the body was found hacked and decapitated.
Brea was arrested and taken to Kings County Hospital for a psychiatric exam. he was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
Neighbours told the new York Daily News that spattered blood was visible on the apartment windows.
In addition to ugly Betty, the Haitian-American actor appeared in the movie Step-Up 3-D and starred in a campaign for the energy drink full Throttle, according to a Haiti Internet movie database website.
