Jurnee Smollett, known for her roles in "Eve's Bayou" and "The Great Debaters," has landed the lead role in Tyler Perry's upcoming film "The Marriage Counselor."

Smollett will play Judith, a newlywed marriage counselor who dishes great relationship advice but cannot seem to apply it to her own marriage.

The movie is based on Perry's 10th play that opened up 2008 and will be produced by himself, Ozzie Areu and Paul Hall with Lionsgate films. There is no word yet on other cast members.

Production on the film begins next week in Atlanta, GA; this will be the third film that Perry has shot this year.
