WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – "One Tree Hill" actress Sophia Bush lamented the loss of the iconic basketball court that symbolized the long-running television series that was filmed for years in Wilmington.

Monday, crews began the dismantling process of the court that sits near the Battleship. The show is ending its television run this season.

"#GoodbyeRivercourt I know that nothing lasts forever, but this hurts my heart. At least we loved it for so long … To whomever owns the property, thank you so much for letting us have it for nine wonderful years. It was a magical place," Sophia Bush posted on her website Monday evening.

Heather Loftin with the Battleship says "One Tree Hill" crews will be removing the court and restoring the park to its natural state. Loftin said its part of the productions contract with the state park. If it stays up, the court is a liability for the park.

Fans attempted to save the court with an on-line petition last week.
