Sir Elton John and David Furnish are fuming over Madonna’s Golden Globes win.

After John predicted on the red carpet that Madonna had “no [bleep]ing chance of winning,” he was stone-faced when Madge — at her first Globes appearance in 14 years — triumphed for best original song Sunday night.

Her tune “Masterpiece,” from “W.E.,” beat John’s “Hello, Hello” from “Gnomeo and Juliet.” After the win, Furnish posted on Facebook: “Madonna. Best song???? [bleep] off!!!”

After her acceptance speech Madonna delivered in a bizarre English accent, Furnish told us: “I think it was a fluke . . . When this happens you have to question the integrity of the awards. Did Madonna get the Golden Globe because she attended the awards and agreed be a presenter?”

WireImage Madonna

He added, “Can you sing Madonna’s song? Can you hum it? It’s a song nobody has heard, from a film few have seen. The award should have gone to Mary J. Blige or Elton. I like Madonna’s music, but not her movies. She should stick to what she is good at.”

But Madonna was glowing at CAA’s Sunset Tower Hotel after-party, both for her win and turning the tables on Globes host Ricky Gervais by saying, “Why don’t you come over here and do something about it,” after Gervais’ crack about her being “like a virgin.”

At the star-studded CAA bash, Angelina Jolie relaxed in a seating area as Brad Pitt ditched his cane and caught up with George Clooney [photo: opposite page], who was with gal pal Stacey Kiebler, and Leonardo DiCaprio and supermodel girlfriend Erin Heatherton.

Bradley Cooper chatted until nearly 2 a.m. with Emma Stone, while Mila Kunis and Olivia Munn sat nearby. Later, Cameron Diaz — hanging with Maroon 5’s Adam Levine and DiCaprio on a terrace — was smoking something more fragrant-smeling than a cigarette.

A source close to Madonna said, “[“W.E.”] has not officially opened . . . so [it is] accurate that many people haven’t seen it yet. There was no deal made about an award for her attending.”

Charlize Theron is really pretty great in Young Adult — you totally knew a Mavis Gary in high school, and this might be how you hoped she'd end up — and she's impressively without vanity. There are loads of scenes where she has thin scraggly bedhead and smeared mascara, and looks like a hangover feels. And while that takes substantially LESS courage when you are Charlize Theron and your worst is still Usain Bolt compared to my third-grade-three-legged-race best, it's still a rarity in the movies, where people wake up after benders or sex marathons alike with perfect eyelashes and just-so lipgloss (and Susan Lucci should have won a Lifetime Achievement Emmy for her work in this field on All My Children, in which Erica Kane managed full flawless face and hair during multiple stints in prison and on the lam).

Anyway: Charlize. I would have gotten a huge kick out of her doing her public-appearance circuit in some of the Mavis Gary Sweatpants and Plaid pantheon of daytime outfits; instead, she sensibly went with something rather above grocery-store couture:

I love how relaxed and casually sophisticated she looks here — and, I must note, the last time she wore this color, she later won a Golden Globe and an Oscar. If it works for her again then perhaps someone in high places has a major jones for green, and next year we'll see every aspiring winner or nominee wearing it.

She abandoned color at the Palm Springs gala:

How embarrassing! I hope she kept the receipt.

Happy birthday Taylor Swift, Jamie Foxx and Steve Buscemi!

Taylor Swift, 22It seems nothing can stop Taylor Swift. This year alone she’s been nominated for three American Country Awards, including Female Artist of the Year, CMT Music Awards Female Video of the Year for “Mine,” five Country Music Association Awards, three 2012 Grammys, and more. But all those nominations are nothing compared to her American Country Awards Entertainer of the Year win, American Music Awards Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Female Artist, and Favorite Country Album wins (she won everything she was nominated for), and Billboard Music Award Top Artist, Top Country Album, Top Billboard 200 Artist, and Top Country Artist wins. She was also most recently honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year. But if you’re getting a little tired of all her soapy love song hits, the country cutie promises she’s switching things up for her next album.

Jamie Foxx, 44Jamie Foxx is like a modern Leonardo DaVinci. He can play the piano, sing, act (all of which he did while wearing prosthetic eyelids that made him virtually blind in 2004’s Ray), plus he’s easy on the eyes. But not all things were starry for the multi-talented star. When he was younger, his parents divorced when he was still a baby and he was raised by his grandparents, who raised him in a very rigid upbringing that involved church and Boy Scouts. In high school he was also a star football player then moved on to study music in college. However, it wasn’t until a former girlfriend urged him to take the stage at the Comedy Club. And the rest is history. Not only is he the first person ever to be nominated for three Golden Globe acting awards in the same year, he’s also the first African-American who was nominated for two Oscars in the same awards ceremony.

Steve Buscemi, 54The actor has had several roles, most of which portrayed him as a criminal or fast talker, in films like Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and Monsters, Inc. He also starred as Tony Blundetto on HBO’s The Sopranos. However, he shot back into fame with another HBO hit, Mark Wahlberg’s Boardwalk Empire. His portrayal of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson even earned him a Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Drama Golden Globe this year. But before he became a successful actor, he worked as a bartender, drove an ice-cream truck, attempted stand-up comedy, and served as a fireman in New York City from 1980 to 1984. He also had a modeling gig with clothing giant H&M in 2000. Buscemi is also in a successful Hollywood marriage. He’s been with wife Jo Andres since 1987 and has one son with her, Lucian Buscemi. Buscemi can next be seen on the big screen in On the Road with Kristen Stewart, animated flick Hotel Transylvania with Adam Sandler and Kevin James, Burt Wonderstone with Jim Carrey and Olivia Wilde, and Monsters University with John Goodman.

Here’s a scene straight out of a movie set. The actress Ellen Page is working in Los Angeles with Leonardo DiCaprio on the film Inception when a member of the crew whacks a bee and kills it.

Page is visibly upset. She wants the bee assailant to know that the tiny winged creature matters, that honeybees play a vital role in the cycle of life, and moreover, they’re mysteriously vanishing at an alarming rate worldwide. It’s a quintessential Page moment; whether she’s on a Hollywood movie set or hanging out in her hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia, she’s going to let you know what she thinks if a topic moves her.

And here’s the weird thing: Visiting on the set that day is a friend of DiCaprio’s, actor Peter Youngblood Hills, who is close with a pair of filmmakers who have made a documentary called Vanishing of the Bees and who need someone with star power to narrate the film. After viewing it, Page says she’s in.

For a young actress who got famous fast after starring in the film Juno, which earned her nominations for Golden Globe and Academy awards, doing a documentary about bees might seem like a risky move—something many up-and-coming actresses wouldn’t take on for fear of derailing a promising career trajectory. But 24-year-old Page is different. She takes chances and goes with her gut. And because of that, she’s crossed the borders of conventionality more times than not.

That self-possession came early for Page, who heeded what she liked and disliked, “even if it didn’t particularly correspond with my demographic,” she says. “I followed my heart, no matter how cheesy that sounds.”

Sure, she can be opinionated and intense, even a pain sometimes, she admits. “I just kind of enjoyed diving into and learning about things I wanted to learn about, and I was stubborn about things I didn’t want to learn about.”

But Hollywood veterans have found Page’s particular brand of self-confidence to be refreshing and disarming. “I have a decade on the girl, and I’m intimidated by her,” Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody said in a 2008 interview with USA Today. “She is that collected, self-assured and mature. She’s comfortable in her own skin. She lacks that insecurity and vanity that’s rampant among young actresses these days. You’d never call her a starlet. She’s an actor in the tradition of Jodie Foster and Sissy Spacek, who are two of her favorites.”

Page says her upbringing in Canada and her education set her apart from many young North American actors. As a youngster, she played sports, participated in the drama club and gravitated toward acting naturally—without prodding from her parents. “I wasn’t 11 and being forced into tap lessons and singing lessons, and being sent to auditions by my overly tanned mother in California,” she told a reporter for National Public Radio.

Though she isn’t Buddhist, she attended a Buddhist high school in Halifax that gave students the freedom to choose what they wanted to learn while teaching them gratitude, personal responsibility, self-discipline, mindfulness, how to think for themselves, even how to communicate with others. “It allowed flexibility in harvesting an individual desire to learn,” Page says. “It made me so much more excited about being educated and gaining beneficial ideas. All education is a huge, huge gift, but I think we lose touch with that when we’re teenagers.”

Page’s acting career started at age 10, when she was asked to audition for a Canadian television movie called Pit Pony. After acting in several other Canadian productions, including the movie Marion Bridge, Page landed a breakout role in 2005 in the American indy feature and psychological thriller Hard Candy, playing a teenager who meets a photographer on the Internet and then tries to expose him as a pedophile. That critically acclaimed performance led to other interesting roles, including a mutant schoolgirl in X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, and Juno in 2007, about a quirky teenager who has to navigate a surprise pregnancy.

Ellen Page owns her character the way Audrey Hepburn owned Holly Golightly.

Page says she immediately knew she was the right person to play Juno after reading just a few pages of the script. “It was like, are you kidding me?” she says. “I’m the first to admit I’m not right for a part, but when I’m right for it, you better give it to me.”

Since that role, she’s played other offbeat characters, such as a Roller Derby teenage rebel in Whip It and Rain Wilson’s sidekick in Super, a dark comedy about do-it-yourself superheroes. She most recently starred alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin in Woody Allen’s new movie, Nero Fiddled, due out this year. The romantic comedy is set in Rome and was influenced by The Decameron, Giovanni Boccaccio’s 14th-century collection of bawdy tales of love. Next up, she’ll be filming The East, a terrorist thriller.

Page says choosing a role comes from an intuitive place. “It can be pretty direct how I respond to the material,” she says. “I listen to my gut; am I being honest with myself? Sometimes I just know that I’m not the right person for it.” Or perhaps the script isn’t challenging or maybe it’s just a topic she’s not interested in exploring.

Page says she’s been lucky to get interesting parts because there just aren’t that many for women. “And everybody is so critical of women. If there’s a movie starring a man that tanks, then I don’t see an article about the fact that the movie starred a man and that must be why it bombed. Then a film comes out where a woman is in the lead… and it doesn’t make much money, and you see articles about how women can’t carry a film,” she said in a 2010 interview with The Guardian.

She’s also critical of the predominance of stereotypical roles, citing the 1985 teen drama The Breakfast Club as an example. “This is, like, an iconic movie, and the coolest character, Ally Sheedy, goes from being this interesting, quirky girl to being made ‘hot’ so she can make out with frickin’ Emilio Estevez? Give me a break!”

Although Page is outspoken about the way Hollywood treats women, she is compassionate toward young actresses whose personal scandals become fodder for tabloids. “They seem like individuals who have been pushed into situations that have been hyper-sexualized from a really young age, and [once they get into trouble] there is no compassion—no one saying ‘Why?’ Everyone’s just judging.”

Drew Barrymore, who directed Whip It, described Page as “wise beyond her years” in a 2009 USA Today interview. “She has range. Ellen is an adult. She’s inquisitive about life.” And a New York Times review of Page in Juno said, “She owns her character the way Audrey Hepburn owned Holly Golightly.”

Owning the character for Page essentially comes from figuring out what makes the character tick. Of course, that’s not always easy. “I think it’s different every time and it’s always a surprise,” she says. “I have moments of feeling insecure, and feeling like I’ve totally pulled the wool over people’s eyes.”

But isn’t it difficult to connect emotionally with a character in a science fiction flick like Inception, where she plays a brilliant student architect charged with designing elaborate dreamscapes that can be used in infiltrating another person’s dreams? Page laughs. That is the reality for that character, she explains: “Like many people, I’m often freaked out by just this world, the absurdity of it. It’s those ideas amplified. I experience a similar bewilderment when I wake up in the middle of the night and am alone and confused about anything that exists.”

Page’s characters—many of them dark, violent, quirky, anything but stereotypical—seem quite different from herself, a young woman who prefers living in her hometown to L.A. or New York, and Converse sneakers and flannel to designer gowns. But finding something in common with her characters makes them and their stories real to her audiences, too.

“I think there’s always such amazing potential for connection and healing with film because it’s art, and that’s what I find so beautiful about art,” she says. “It’s awesome to go on that journey with yourself, and people will respond to it and take from it whatever they will.”

That desire to connect as both an actress and a person contributed to her interest in narrating Vanishing of the Bees. Produced by George Langworthy and Maryam Henein, the documentary explores Colony Collapse Disorder, characterized by the abrupt disappearance of bees, which has been occurring at an increasing rate since it was first identified in North America in 2006. Colony collapse is significant because most agricultural crops depend on bees for pollination. No one has pinpointed the cause of the phenomenon, although authorities have suggested a variety of possibilities, including disease, pesticides, migratory beekeeping (transporting colonies to pollinate different crops) and stress caused by environmental changes.

“I couldn’t have asked for a smarter young woman,” says Henein. “I have a lot of respect and genuine care for her. She wants to do something positive with her celebrity.” It’s not only that Page wants to have an impact; she wants to experience new situations herself. “The interconnectedness of all things is astoundingly beautiful and it almost overwhelms me a lot of the time,” says Page. “My goal is to try and be more connected to the cycles of the earth, to get back to that place.”

And she’s serious. A few years ago, she went to an area near Eugene, Ore., and lived in an eco-village for a month. There, she shoveled goat manure and learned about permaculture, a philosophy in which communities are environmentally sustainable by working with the cycles of nature.

Standing ankle deep in animal dung is a long way from Hollywood for most, but for Page, it’s just one more interesting connection in the web of life—a life in which she sees herself as not so different from all the other creatures, which are just “wired little bunch of stuff like we all are.” Including, of course, those “beautiful, awesome little bees.”

In the follow up to the 2009 hit 'Sherlock Holmes' the sleuths travel across Europe as they attempt to take on the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty.

Around the globe, headlines report: a scandal takes down an Indian cotton tycoon; a Chinese opium trader dies of an apparent overdose; bombings in Strasbourg and Vienna; the death of an American steel magnate. Professor Moriarty is at the centre of it all.

Holmes' investigation becomes more dangerous as it leads him and Watson out of London to France, Germany and finally Switzerland. But the cunning Moriarty is always one step ahead.

Guy Ritchie who directed the film said he thought it was better than the first one.

"I think we just we knew what we were doing more when we came to this one, we worked harder, it was actually a more painful film to make."

"We weren't prepared to be lazy, we didn't want to be lazy and we knew that laziness was our enemy, it is easy to be lazy, so we had to trump it and with that comes a certain amount of anxiety and pressure," he added.

Last time Downey Jr scooped a Golden Globe for his part but said, "honestly, I don't really care about that stuff, I really like it when audiences enjoy movies that to me is fifty times more important that an Oscar."

Talking about the popularity of the film's characters Law said, "I think we are all like both of them so when we read them there are days when we are like Watson and we're sensible and we're down to earth and we're stubborn but trustworthy and there are other days when we want to be mad people and experiment with our eccentricities."

In her first English-speaking role, Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who gained international attention in the Swedish film “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” plays a mysterious Gypsy named Sim, who becomes allied with Holmes and Watson in their quest to stop Moriarty. The Swedish actress said her co-stars Downey Jr. and Law made her feel at ease on set.

"The amazing thing with those guys is they are so supporting and loving and they just grab me and embraced me and took care of me, it almost felt like a small indie movie because we were all really close and it was really intimate," she said.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows premieres in London and is on general release across the UK on December 16.

Dexter Morgan's number one rule is: Don't get caught. The serial killer acted by Michael C. Hall on Showtime's infectious hit drama, Dexter, may stay out of jail for a few more years. How do I know? Well, we are all ahead green for Season 7 and Season 8 of the show.

I know the news is wonderful to Dexter fans. Each season always feels way too short to this viewer. The more, the merrier.

Showtime network president David Nevins made the official announcement. When he did, Nevins cited the hard-working cast as the show's reason for continued success. Amen there, brother. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter should always been nominated for Emmy Awards as far as I'm concerned. There aren't enough complex female characters like Dexter's foster sister turned hard-nosed cop, Debra Morgan. Carpenter, who is always brilliant as Deb, is also coming soon to the set of The Good Wife and we hear her character will be Deb's polar opposite. I can't wait for that. But when it comes to series regulars, the colorful cast of Dexter can be everything from believably and intensely dramatic to effortlessly funny.

The show is also known for making wise choices in its guest stars. Keith Carradine was always a welcome sight as FBI Sepcial Agent Frank Lundy. Jimmy Smits hung out for most of Season 3. John Lithgow won Golden Globe and Emmy awards for his role as the Trinity Killer. Julia Stiles became an all time favorite as Lumen Pierce during the phenomenal Season 5. In the current season, the show's sixth, Edward James Olmos, Mos Def, and Colin Hanks add to the tradition of fine guest stars.

Network president Nevins also reminded viewers how much "bigger" Season 6 is becoming. He said the creative team all share quite a vision for where the story will go in the future. Hall also signed the dotted line to continue playing Dexter for seasons 7 and 8. There really isn't a show without him after all. Hall said he and the entire Dexter family "relish" the idea of going even deeper into the dark world of Dexter Morgan. Production for Season 7 will begin next year.

Morgan Freeman already was celebrated this year with AFI’s Life Achievement Award. Now the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has decided to give him another career-spanning honor at this year’s Golden Globes.

The HFPA announced earlier today that Freeman, 74, will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Globes ceremony, to be held Jan. 15. The award is bestowed upon “talented individuals who have made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment,” a press release explained, noting that recent recipients have included Robert De Niro (2011), Martin Scorsese (2010) and Steven Spielberg (2009).

So in summary, this means that the Golden Globes telecast will feature a delightfully uplifting montage of clips from Freeman’s many films; possibly Tim Robbins presenting Freeman with the award in a moment that reminds us all of the touching relationship between Andy Dufresne and Red in “The Shawshank Redemption”; and Freeman making an admirably classy acceptance speech that will immediately thrust his name on to Twitter’s trending topics list.

For the record, the revered actor already has one Golden Globe — the statuette he won back in 1990 for his work in “Driving Miss Daisy.” He has been nominated on four other occasions.

SAVANNAH, Georgia — November 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The 14th annual Savannah Film Festival, hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design, rounded out a full week of special screenings and award presentations by honoring Golden Globe-nominated actor Aaron Eckhart (“The Dark Knight,” “Erin Brockovich”), actor James Marsden (“27 Dresses,” “X-Men”) and the writing/directing brother team of Jay and Mark Duplass (“Cyrus,” “The Puffy Chair”) during the event’s closing weekend.

Accepting the Outstanding Achievement in Film Award before a packed theater, Eckhart thoughtfully reflected on the driving motivation behind his career. “Early on in my career, I had the privilege to work with Morgan Freeman. Every word out of his mouth was perfect, and take after take was flawless. I asked Morgan, ‘How do you do it?’ and, without missing a beat, he turned and looked me in the eye and said, ‘Thirty years.’ I’m halfway there. After 30-plus movies, I continue to ask, ‘How do you do it?’ The perfect film role

Actor, director and mainstream political activist Robert Redford was born on August 18, 1936 in Santa Monica, California. Over the course of his long career, Redford has become increasingly generous with his charitable donations, and also increasingly political, famously standing directly against the latter Bush administration.

Redford was born Charles Robert Redford, Jr. and was an extremely talented baseball player when he was young. In fact, Redford landed a baseball scholarship and played at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1955. Robert was one of the top college prospects in the nation until his mother died suddenly, leaving Robert shattered.

After being kicked off of the baseball team for drinking and an overall lack of performance, Redford set his sights on becoming a painter. He took a job at a Los Angeles oil field solely to fund his ambitions of moving to Paris and attending art school. He ended up studying with artists in Italy, but by 1958, Redford grew bored of the life.

Redford met a young Mormon student named Lolo Jean Van Wagenen. She convinced him to quit drinking, and the couple married and moved to New York so Robert could once again follow his dreams of being an artist. At the same time, he also started attending classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

After being noticed by a Broadway stage manager, Redford was asked to perform a small part in a 1959 production titled Tall Story. Over the course of the next few years, Robert was a regular fixture on the Broadway scene and even appeared in some TV, like the Twilight Zone and Route 66.

Like with baseball and art before it, Redford eventually grew tired of the day-to-day life of a stage actor. He put his focus entirely on motion pictures, but after experiencing very moderate success, he again traveled to Europe to focus more on his life. He had made a total of five films to this point and earned a Golden Globe for the most promising male newcomer.

After returning to Hollywood in 1967, Redford starred in a film version of a play he had done, Barefoot in the Park, alongside Jane Fonda. This is the film that made him famous, and after the film studio hesitantly put him alongside Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Redford was dubbed Hollywood's new golden boy.

Redford was considered for the part of Michael Corleone in The Godfather, but was declined. He did end up working with Francis Ford Coppola, however, in The Great Gatsby. Redford would star in a slue of hit movies throughout the 1970s, but he backed off in the 80s and focused more on directing.

After winning an Academy Award for his directorial marvel Ordinary People, Redford tried out his acting chops again in 1984's instant sport classic The Natural, where he played an old baseball player with an uncanny ability to hit homeruns.

Redford's directing days were just getting started, however, and he directed such hits as Quiz Show, The Horse Whisperer and The Legend of Bagger Vance. Redford's most recent role was as a college professor in Lions for Lambs, and he has other movies in the works at the moment: Against All Enemies, The Company you Keep and A Walk in the Woods.

MANILA, Philippines — Starring Oscar winner Al Pacino as the late Dr Jack Kevorkian in this film by Oscar winner Barry Levinson (“Rain Man”), “You Don’t Know Jack” is the story of one man’s obsession with challenging the rules by which we live and die – and his stubborn, heartfelt insistence on breaking the law to do so.

Al Pacino won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role as Kevorkian. “You Don’t Know Jack” also stars Oscar winner Susan Sarandon as Janet Good, Danny Huston as Geoffrey Fieger, Emmy winner Brenda Vaccaro as Margo and Emmy winner John Goodman as Neal Nicol.

This HBO Original Movie offers a rare look at the late “Dr Death”, the man behind the sensational headlines, starting with his initial foray into patient consultations and the media frenzy that ensued. One of the most polarizing figures in modern American history, Kevorkian and his allies – sister Margo, friend and medical supplier Neal Nicol, Hemlock Society activist Janet Good, and defense attorney Geoffrey Fieger dedicated themselves to a cause fraught with legal and ethical hurdles, not to mention the real possibility of long-term imprisonment.

“You Don’t Know Jack” begins in 1989 as 61-year-old former pathologist Dr Jack Kevorkian launches his crusade to provide what he considers to be a humane and dignified option for the terminally ill – assisted suicide. Aided by loyal friend Neal Nicol and older sister Margo Janus, Kevorkian begins offering “death counseling” services to a grateful and burgeoning clientele. He earns the support of Hemlock Society activist Janet Good and the wrath of the county prosecutor’s office. Talented and flamboyant attorney Geoffrey Fieger agrees to represent Kevorkian in court at no charge, and Kevorkian is repeatedly exonerated, despite the impassioned efforts of his detractors. As the media catapults him to the forefront of national news coverage, Kevorkian continues his work, helping 130 patients end their lives. Provocative, obstinate and complex, Kevorkian risks it all in his fervor to challenge the prevailing laws, with self-determination at the core of his beliefs. His ultimate goal: to argue a constitutional right to die before the US Supreme Court.

“You Don’t Know Jack” premieres for the first time in Asia on Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. on HBO Signature.

They were Hollywood's golden couple, Friends star Jennifer Aniston and hunky heartthrob Brad Pitt, who married in a private ceremony in Malibu two years after they met in 1998.

The marriage was claimed as a rare Hollywood success, then he made the film Mr and Mrs and met co-star Angelina Jolie.

Pitt and Aniston were divorce in 2005 and rumours were rife that her husband had cheated on her with Jolie. The divorce became headline news for months and T-shirts with Team Aniston and Team Jolie started to appear, with Team Aniston outselling Team Jolie 4-1.

Aniston has always said Pitt was the love of her life and they'd had seven very intense years together, a beautiful, complicated relationship.

In 2010 the couple resumed their friendship, which has annoyed his current partner Jolie. She dislikes him keeping in touch with Aniston's mother and has banned the star from seeing Aniston when he is with any of the six children they are raising together.

After the divorce Aniston reunited with her estranged mother Nancy asking her for support. Mother and daughter fell out after Nancy talked about her daughter on a television show and they were estranged for ten years. Nancy also went on to write a book From Mother and Daughter to Friends – A Memoir.

Aniston was devastated by the death of her long time therapist whose work helped make her separation from Pitt easier.

She became a household name all over the world with her performance as Rachel Green in Friends which won her an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor's Guild Award.

She came from an acting background as her parents Nancy Dow and John Aniston were both actors and she is of Greek descent on her father's side and Scottish and Italian descent on her mother's side. Her godfather was the late Telly Savalas of Kojak fame, who was her father's best friend.

As a child the family lived in Greece for a year before the family relocated to New York City where she attended the Rudolf Steiner School and she graduated from Manhatten's Fiorello H La Guardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts.

After graduation Aniston was determined to make her mark in the acting profession, so she took whatever job she could ranging from a telemarketer, waitress and bike messenger while she worked in off-Broadway productions.

In 1989 she moved to Los Angeles and she was cast in her first TV role starring as a regular cast member in Molloy She also appeared in the RV movie Camp Cucamonga

She has starred in several big movies, but her biggest box office success was in 2003 when she played Jim Carey's live-in girlfriend in Bruce Almighty and she was named the 10th richest woman in the Entertainment industry in 2007.

She works for a number of charities and is a supporter of the Friends of El Faro a grass roots non-profit organisation that helps raise money for the Casa Hogar Suon, an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico.

She has also appeared in many television commercials for St Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, which she also supports.

Coventry is an ancient city that is now the ninth largest in the UK and the second largest in the Midlands. Rich in history, the city has experienced much and its cathedral is more modern than most cities' as the original was bombed during WWII. Coventry is home to many famous people including legendary figures, inventors, poets, sports people and actors.

Frank Whittle Frank Whittle was born in 1907, a Royal Air Force officer and the inventor of the jet engine. It was only on his third attempt that he was accepted as an apprentice in the RAF, though, because of his height. Joining in 1923, five years later Whittle was a pilot officer. In 1929, Whittle realised that planes would need to fly at high altitudes to achieve long distance and high speeds – his idea was to use a fan within the fuselage which would create a fast flow of air and keep the plane in motion at high altitude. The Air Ministry rejected his idea so he patented it himself. The jet engine, which made its first flight in 1941, proved a success and the technology was used widely, particularly in America. He was knighted in 1948, the year he retired from the RAF, and died in 1996.

Pete Waterman A record producer and railway enthusiast, Pete Waterman was born in Stoke Heath in Coventry in 1947. From a young age, he built an impressive record collection and began to do DJ work across the UK developing his passion for music and an understanding of the music industry. He set up PWL (Pete Waterman Limited) in 1984 and has to-date enjoyed 22 UK number one hits with his acts. According to the Sunday Times Rich List 2006-2007, Waterman is worth 30 million.

Clive Owen Clive Owen has worked in theatre, film and television after first gaining recognition for his role as the lead in ITV's Chancer, which ran between 1990 and 1991. In 2005, Owen won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award. He has starred in a number of films including Gosford Park, Bourne Identity, Sin City and Children of Men. Owen met his then-future wife while they were playing the lead roles in Romeo and Juliet at the Young Vic, and married her in 1995. He now lives in north Essex with his wife and their two children.

When I exited the Nokia Theatre after the Emmys on Sunday night, a journo pal from a local TV station said that he just saw Steve Carell and Hugh Laurie walk by, looking upset and skipping the Governors Ball.

Both had good reason to be irked, if that's what was going on. After Carell lost for comedy actor five times, most pundits believed he'd win for his final year on "The Office" -– just as Sarah Jessica Parker won her first Emmy for her last year on "Sex and the City" (2004). Laurie ("House") had lost for dramatic actor five times too, but nobody thought he'd win this year. Still, Laurie has won two Golden Globes (2006, 2007) and two SAG Awards (2007, 2009), so he probably believes Emmy voters have a grudge against him.

That's probably how Jon Hamm feels too. "Mad Men" just won best drama series for a record-tying fourth time, but its lead star has yet to claim an Emmy. Hamm won a Golden Globe in 2008. Costar John Slattery just lost for a fourth time in the supporting race.

That's nothing. TV's top-rated "American Idol" just lost best reality competition show for a ninth time.

Breakfast on Pluto – 2 Stars (Average)

Breakfast on Pluto is a gender preference movie about a boy who really wants to be a girl, and settles for being a transvestite trying to find a place in a world that curses his very existence. Irish actor Cillian Murphy plays Patrick Kitten Braden in a controversial film due to the subject matter.

It is very difficult to make a great film. It is difficult to make a good film. It is almost impossible to make a good film when the subject matter is not even on the radar screen of the average viewer.

Alternative lifestyle films do not win awards even if the actors involved get an Oscar (as Hilary Swank did in Boys Don't Cry), get nominated for an Oscar (as Felicity Huffman did in Transamerica) or get nominated for a Golden Globe (as Cillian Murphy did in Breakfast on Pluto).

The typical moviegoer does not want to talk about alternative lifestyles much less see them. We are uncomfortable with what we do not know or understand, and even if we did, men would have a fondness for the distaff side only if they are genetic girls.

There will be no great acceptance for alternative films now or in the distant future.

Hollywood is OK with accepting alternative lifestyles, but Hollywood is generally far more liberal, permissive and self-absorbed than mainstream America.

Some of us in mainstream America are interested in relationship films and put no restrictions on the individuals and lifestyles involved. I endured Boys Don't Cry and Transamerica and am pleased to say I did not have to endure Breakfast on Pluto.

I think that Neil Jordan is the reason why. Jordan not only directed the film but wrote the script based on Pat McCabe's novel. McCabe plays the role of the schoolmaster. Jordan's script does not follow McCabe's novel, and the film is made better by his decision.

Jordan achieves something that few of his counterparts have been able to do and that is direct and write and produce a good product. I have a laundry list of wannabe writer/directors who have tried to do both and failed miserably.

The only other effort that immediately comes to mind besides Neil Jordan is Tim McCanlies' Secondhand Lions. McCanlies is a master storyteller in Secondhand Lions.

Unlike Boys Don't Cry and Transamerica which missed a great opportunity to inform and educate people about alternative lifestyles, Breakfast on Pluto delivers big time. Instead of a tragic ending filled with stereotypes and dialog riddled with hatred and bigotry, Breakfast on Pluto has a happy ending.

Cillian Murphy's great performance honors a character who stays true to her life, and remains in character to win in the end. While the production in the film suffers from sound problems that border on annoying, Murphy does not miss a beat despite narrowly escaping death on three occasions.

The film could not have been comfortable for the Catholic church as the priest Father Liam (Liam Neeson) impregnates his very attractive housekeeper, becoming the father (literally and figuratively) of Patrick Braden. He is raised as a foster child by an alcoholic mother who earns her living as a tavern owner.

Young Patrick gets into his gender role early on and eventually leaves his small Irish town for Piccadilly Circus in London, becoming an entertainer and streetwalker.

Jordan as the Director concentrates on the character of Kitten and wisely avoids taking the low road by using any tawdry displays for ratings. He makes Kitten into a real person that has a lack of direction and real problems fitting into regular society.

Cillian Murphy does an excellent job of keeping his character Kitten on task with the famous line to thine own self be true. Kitten does not waver or compromise who she is despite danger or lack of acceptance. In the end, Father Liam comes to terms with breaking his vow of celibacy, reconciles with Kitten, and experiences some personal growth in the process.

Do not be concerned about too many of these alternative films making it to the screen. Breakfast on Pluto had to be a financial disaster, pulling in only $751,000 at the box office.

I think anyone involved in an alternative lifestyle would appreciate Breakfast on Pluto, not because it makes a statement about endorsing an alternative lifestyle, but because it makes a statement about acceptance of oneself without recrimination.

Kitten shows it is not necessary to flaunt who you are to gain acceptance, she eventually finds acceptance by being herself, nothing more and nothing less.

The worst show ever to hit your TV.

Let me start by saying the title of this essay is sarcastic, and if you don't like looking like an idiot by not knowing that, or you just have no sense of humor in general, then Arrested Development is definitely not a show you would enjoy. Now that I got that out of the way, and you are still reading this, good job, you just took the first step in finding out why Arrested Development is exactly the opposite of what the of this essay suggests. Arrested Development is a character-driven comedy that made its debut on November 2, 2003, and ended shortly after on February 10th, 2006, after only 53 episodes on the air. Although the show was treated worse by the network than a red-headed stepchild, it has gathered a huge cult following and is now being turned in to a feature film. During its run on television, Arrested Development managed to become widely regarded as the best television show of all time in many critics' eyes.

The show won six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series. It also received twenty Emmy nominations as well as one Golden Globe and a spot on Time Magazine's 100 best TV shows of all time, a pretty big accomplishment for a show which only lasted 53 episodes. Arrested Development challenged the rules of television, constantly breaking the mold of what people expected in a TV show, and arguably changed television forever. The show ignored the format of the traditional half hour comedy, making it better in every way, and wasn't afraid to take whatever risks they felt necessary. Its amazing cast made even the most absurd characters seems believable, and above all else, its incredible plot and constantly entertaining writing made Arrested Development the best show to ever grace our air waves….hands down.

Whether you are a devoted fan of Arrested Development, or have only seen an episode or two, the acting constantly stands out as one of the show's shining achievements. The cast of Arrested Development, whether they were famous before it began, or were nobody important, have all moved on to become huge stars. Most notably is Michael Cera, whose audition tape was flown in to Fox, and was later picked to play the roll of George-Michael. Since being cast in Arrested Development, Michael Cera has moved on to become a breakout star, being cast in blockbuster movies such as Superbad. Jason Bateman, although somewhat of a star before the show's run, also moved on to become a huge star along with fellow cast-mate Will Arnett.

The creator of the show, Mitch Hurwitz, had 3 weeks to put the cast together, and although he said There's no way to get this cast right..it's impossible..they're all such hard parts to cast. The cast was chosen, and Mitch Hurwitz never looked back. In every case, one person was right for the role. They're so good. One of the main challenges of a character driven comedy is..well..the characters. The cast of Arrested Development does such an amazing job playing a believable family, that as a viewer, you ignore how completely repulsive, and un-relatable these characters would be on their own. The cast of Arrested Development plays their roles so well, that if you were to see them in the street you would no doubt expect them to utter one of their famous catchphrases, or have the exact same personality that they have on the show. As well as the main cast, the supporting cast and guest stars were always entertaining, and were never afraid to poke fun at themselves as long as it meant a laugh. Famous actors from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, to Charlize Theron have guest starred on the show and have all helped in contributing to what makes this show amazing.

The guest stars were never afraid to joke about themselves or previous work they have done. During a guest appearance from Dan Castellaneta, the man who does the voice for Homer in The Simpsons, he said Homer's famous catchphrase D'oh., which immediately helped me to identify him as the voice of Homer, and caused a laugh. Another example of this subtle humor that only people aware of the actors who play these roles would understand, is when the main character, Michael, was on a date with his supposed British girlfriend Rita, played by Charlize Theron (who is American) The couple had just gone out to see a movie when Rita remarks, I hate it when they hire Yanks to play Brits, you can always tell. It's these subtle lines of comedy that make the show rewarding and constantly entertaining to watch. On top of all this, each of the characters, including the series narrator, played by Ron Howard, has something unique and interesting to bring to the table. From Jason Bateman's portrayal of the righteous, level headed son, to Will Arnett's overly dramatic (and horrible) magician, to David Cross' always hilarious physical humor and dialogue that can be mistaken as meaning many different things, the characters, and the actors who play them, can carry this show on their own, even if you disregard every other amazing aspect of this show.

Although I could write forever about the acting, there are still so many aspects of this show that made it the best show on television, and still the best to this day. One of the major things that made Arrested Development the amazing show that it was, was its ability to take whatever risks the creators felt necessary, to make a constantly entertaining television show. There were risks, like controversial jokes, such as My husband is dying, I'll get all the attention, like superman's wife got., as well as risks like having more swearing than any other show on network television. On top of all this there were highly controversial themes in the plot, such as incest, and the war in Iraq.

Perhaps the main risk the creators of the show had to take was the specific presentation and style of the show, in regards to it finding loyal viewers, and keeping its ratings up enough to survive. The creators took a huge risk when choosing to make a show with such un-relatable characters, as well as a plot that can only be understood by the most loyal viewers, and a format that is best understood when watched on DVD back to back to back. To the average TV watcher, all these factors may seem like huge flaws, and probably are if you don't watch the show regularly or don't appreciate television other than as a source for repetitive reality shows, and sitcoms that don't require you to think or use your mind in any way other than keeping your eyes open long enough to see who was voted off whatever island some strangers are stranded on this particular season.

However, to someone who likes smart comedies, and actually having a reason to watch a show every week and be constantly entertained by hilarious call backs to other episodes, or jokes that only a loyal viewer would understand, all the aforementioned flaws, such as un-relatable characters, a confusing plot, and a format best enjoyed when watched back to back, are actually the shows biggest strengths. Another huge risk for the creators of the show was the choice of not having a laugh track. Mitch Hurwitz's decision to not include laughing after jokes allows you to take lines that otherwise might be seen as just direct jokes, and make them seem realistic. The narrator of the show is something not prevalent in most television shows, and ties the plot together as well as being a major source of entertainment. This feature also informs the viewer, and clears up any confusion about what the characters have just said.

Lindsay: Wasn't she on the cover of Newsweek?
Michael: Yes
Narrator: She was not.

Another big risk for the show was its constant use of archive footage to help tie together plot threads, and add a new layer of comedy just for comic relief. The over-arching plot and the way each new story was tightly related by something that happened in an earlier episode made the show everything that it was. Had these risks not been taken, Arrested Development may still be on television, but it wouldn't be worth mentioning, watching, or doing a major summative assignment on. Risks were what made Arrested Development great, and allowed every part of the show to work perfectly together. Without risks on Arrested Development, there truly would be no reward.

Canadian writer Mordecai Richler's novel "Barney's Version" is the inspiration for the film from director Richard J. Lewis. The book is an autobiographical tale told mostly from the standpoint of Barney Panofsky, a Canadian TV producer who's unlucky in love. Paul Giamatti stars as Barney, and for his performance, the actor took home a Golden Globe. The film's fun stems from an entertaining screenplay in the hands of a talented cast that includes Rosamund Pike, Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver and Scott Speedman. The viewer gets into the Barney's life before his first wedding, which is over before it even starts. Eventually, he moves on to his second wife, but that relationship has no future because Barney meets the gal of his dreams at his wedding. His mission with his second wife (Driver) is leaving so he can be with Miriam (Pike). The film is only available in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, and a couple of featurettes are necessary for viewing. A making-of featurette looks at production, and has interviews with cast and crew. Another featurette with Richler gives the viewer a deeper perspective on the story. Additional interviews with Columbia professor Annette Insdorf and Giamatti, commentary and a look at the film's premiere are also included. R; 2010. 3 Stars.

"Sucker Punch" (Warner Bros. Pictures)

Filmmaker Zack Snyder has a true gift for visuals. Eye-popping cinematography acted as a sweetener in his past projects "300" and "Watchmen." His latest, "Sucker Punch"carries the same qualities, but is lacking in its storyline or character development. Starring an impressive set of young actresses (Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung and Vanessa Hudgens), the movie follows a young woman (Browning) forced into a mental institution by her stepfathe. To cope with the situation, she creates alternative realities. When things get difficult, she is able to retreat to a war-torn world where she stands as a great warrior. With her fellow patients, she sets out to rip down the horrible regimes of the world. The plot is an original one — written by Steve Shibuya and Snyder — but suffers from a lack of execution. Blu-ray is the best buy for consumers because it includes a detailed movie mode that allows viewers to explore the picture with Snyder. A featurette on the soundtrack and animated shorts, also available in standard packages, are also included. Another boost for Blu-ray is an extended cut of the movie. PG-13; 2011. 1.5 Stars.

A couple weeks ago, "Red Riding Hood" landed on DVD, and it was aimed at "Twilight" fans. This week, another legendary story gets the same treatment. "Beastly" is loosely adapted from Alex Flinn's 2007 novel of the same name was based on "Beauty and the Beast." Like "Twilight," "Beastly" is a romantic fantasy pic with a hip cast. And, like "Twilight," director Daniel Barnz's film can be skipped. The movie takes shortcuts in attempting to bring the two leads — Kyle (Alex Pettyfer) and Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) — together for the big closing kiss. It results in a lack of character development and quality storytelling. Pettyfer has the part of Kyle, a popular senior in a NYC high school. He's shallow, basing all his beliefs on looks. When he crosses a classmate (Mary-Kate Olsen) — a witch at the school — she puts a curse on him, making him as ugly on the outside as he is on the inside. To break it, he has to find a woman to fall in love with him despite his looks. Special features for Blu-ray and standard DVD include an alternate ending and two featurettes. PG-13; 2011. 1.5 stars.

'Season of the Witch'

It's not difficult to find the problems with the latest from filmmaker Dominic Sena, a Youngstown, Ohio, native. The picture plods along on a storyline that's incomprehensible in parts and the main stars — Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman — don't help. The film finds two veteran soldiers — Cage and Perlman — fighting in the Crusades for the church. After a lopsided battle, they bow out from the fighting, because they don't like the direction in which the church is heading. They are on the open road until they're captured in a village being killed off by the plague. To escape their punishment from abandoning the Crusades, they're tasked to escort a supposed witch to her trial at a monastery. The road is filled with pitfalls, but once they come up on the monastery, they realize things will get a lot worse. The film's only saving grace is a decent battle scene that closes things out. It is packed with some nice special effects. Standard and Blu-ray sets pack in some nice special features. The only difference between the two packages is commentary on Blu-ray. Two featurettes that set this package apart. Both dwell on special effects. The first one covers the Crusades, and the second looks at the closing act. PG-13; 2011. 1.5 Stars.
