Though the actual presidential elections are still eleven months away, if you've been paying even casual attention to the news you'll know the Republican fight for the nomination is already speeding along. What better time, then, to look back and remember the high drama of the last time we all went through this as a nation?

HBO has just released the first trailer for Jay Roach's Game Change, based on John Heilemann and Mark Halperin's bestselling chronicle of the 2008 presidential elections. Though the book covers both the Republican and Democrat sides of the race, Roach's film narrows its focus to John McCain (Ed Harris), Sarah Palin (Julianne Moore), and their bid for office. Woody Harrelson, Sarah Paulson, and Ron Livingston also star. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Thanks to some early publicity stills, we've already known for months that Harris and Moore were capable of looking the parts they'd been cast in, but this trailer proves they've got the voices and mannerisms down pat as well. Moore's impersonation in particular is almost eerie in its accuracy. I felt some serious deja vu when she announced, "I will be honored to accept your nomination for vice president of the United States."

Game Change reunites Roach with screenwriter Danny Strong, who previously penned Roach's Recount. That film, a fictionalized account of the 2000 presidential election and that whole "hanging chad" debacle, earned Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Made for TV Movie Emmys for Roach and a writing nomination for Strong.

If you haven't read the book, I recommend it highly even if political tomes don't tend to be your thing, and even though, yes, reality has already spoiled the ending of the tale. McCain and Palin may have offered some of the most surprising moments of the 2008 race, but there's plenty of batshit craziness that went on in all the other camps as well. (Ahem, John Edwards.) And hey, there's no time like the present to pick up some reading material all but guaranteed to spark tense political conversations with relatives over Christmas dinner.

‘Game Change’ Trailer – Julianne Moore’s Sarah Palin Impersonation Gives Tina Fey’s a Run for Its Money

In an interview with Larry King, Depp said that the biographical movie will likely feature a combination of live action and animation.

"It's something we're developing with Seuss' widow, [Theodor] Geisel's widow," he said. "It's a very exciting possibility, because it's a combination of live-action and … the characters will certainly have a role."

Lily Collins Attached To "The English Teacher"Artina Films announced in a press release today that Lily Collins has come on board their upcoming indie comedy "The English Teacher." She will be joining Julianne Moore, Greg Kinnear, Nathan Lane and Michael Angarano. Collins will play a popular high school student who comes into conflict with Linda, a high school English teacher who convinces a former student to show his un-produced play at their school. "The English Teacher" is being directed by Craig Zisk.

John Cusack And Malin Akerman Head To "The Numbers Station"The Hollywood Reporter has learned that John Cusack and Malin Akerman are both set to star in the upcoming thriller, "The Numbers Station." Cusack will play a disgraced black ops agent who is charged with protecting Malin Akerman, a CIA code operator. Danish director Kasper Barfoed will direct the project. It is set to start principal photography in mid-November.

Jason Sudeikis Joins The "Dog Fight"More than 10 months after Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis's political comedy was announced, it finally landed itself a title and a new cast member. Risky Business is reporting that Jason Sudeikis has come on board the flick, which is now called "Dog House." The Jay Roach-directed comedy follows Ferrell and Galifianakis as rival politicians in South Carolina. Filming is set to start in November for an August 10, 2012 release date.

Michelle Monaghan Heads To "Fort Bliss"Michelle Monaghan is the first actress to come on board Claudia Myers' upcoming indie drama "Fort Bliss," Variety reports. The "Machine Gun Preacher" star will play a veteran of the war in Afghanistan who is sent home and struggles to reconnect with her 5-year-old son. The film will go in front of the camera next June in New Mexico.

Crazy Stupid Love is one of those romantic comedies that sneaks up on you delivering surprise after surprise and the method in which the film pulls them off is rather welcome. Steve Carell's had very few film that have enabled him to demonstrate his ability to juggle comedy with drama, playing characters in painful and very human situations, with the right injections of humor. It should come as no surprise that after the disaster that was Date Night, he's found something right up his alley, especially since he serves as one of the film's producers.

Carrell is bumbling boring dad Cal, whose wife Emily (Julianne Moore) suddenly reveals an extramarital affair and wants a divorce. Faced to come to terms with his new single life, Cal's un-smoothness brings the comedy straight to life, much as Carrell did in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, but with a slight bit of pain beneath the surface. Cal's pathetic blabbering at the bar of a club catches the eye of Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling) a bed 'em and dump 'em ladies man who, for reasons that never really become clear, decides to take the older man under his wing and teach him a thing or two about pulling women using a combination of flash, layered clothing and a steady stream of rather unpleasant cynicism.

Cal learns the art of 21st century flirting and how to date from Jacob, making for some incredible hilarious staged moments between the two actors, with Gosling's stark bluntness and Carrell's apparent awkwardness giving the picture the light-hearted feel that audiences look for in a comedy. Predictably, the roles are reversed between student and teacher when Jacob falls for Hannah, played by Emma Stone who is clearly making herself known in the comic world of acting, and surprisingly the realizations between the characters are complimented with relatable humor, rather than heavy-handed, deep thoughts, giving even greater appeal to the audience.

Cal's perky babysitter (Analeigh Tipton) is trying to work out a way of getting him to notice her crush on her while at the same time cooling the jets of his son Robbie (Jonah Bobo), who keeps professing that she is his soulmate. Meanwhile Emily is also adjusting to life being single, though not as successfully as Cal. Her boss (Kevin Bacon) with whom she had the affair with, is being incredibly persistent in his romantic pursuit of her, yet she surprises herself that she's reluctant to continue things further.There are more twists, turns and surprises for the characters and the viewer throughout Crazy Stupid Love, leaving for a confrontational battle when all is revealed but predictably, the ending wraps up the comedy and leaves things on a feel good note. Sort of. The film is a typical rom-com made in the same spirit of the UK import Love, Actually from a few years back, though not as well. Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) — James Staley, chief executive of investment banking at JPMorgan Chase & Co., said he was at the NYU Cancer Institute gala last night “to support my wife.”

“I am involved because my father died of stomach cancer,” said Debora Staley, who is on the institute’s advisory board. “And because I have so many friends with cancer.”

The gala tables filled the Plaza Hotel Ballroom and the reception area, accommodating 600 guests in an area usually used for 300 or so.

“We had to turn people away,” said Lori Fink, chairman of the institute’s advisory board and wife of BlackRock Inc. Chairman Laurence Fink. “The reason we’re so successful is our board. Every meeting we learn about the science.”

“I love learning, but I’m biased,” said Kenneth Langone. “I’m chairman of the NYU Langone Medical Center,” of which the institute is a part within the larger domain of New York University.

The next board meeting will include presentations on integrative medicine and biomarkers, said Dr. William Carroll, the director of the NYU Cancer Institute.

The event raised $3.2 million.

Julianne Moore admitted she felt nutty reading a children’s book to adults but she was game. Her mother-in-law, Deborah Freundlich, had asked her to.

John C. Reilly was roped in by his mother-in-law’s best friend, Linda van Schaick.

And so a benefit for the Children of Bellevue Reach Out and Read program came together.

The idea was to simulate what happens at the hospital, where volunteers sit down on blue mats and read to every child who comes in, even if it’s just for a checkup.

The event, “Starry Night Stories,” took place at Florence Gould Hall in midtown Manhattan.

Moore and Samuel Jackson read “Freckleface Strawberry Best Friends Forever,” which Moore wrote. She is a dead ringer for Freckleface Strawberry, and gave her a giddy, sweet voice. Jackson deadpanned as her best friend Windy Pants Patrick.

Later Jackson made some very realistic pigeon coos as sound effects for Mo Willems’s “Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late,” read by his wife, LaTanya Richardson. Jackson is playing Martin Luther King Jr. in the Broadway production of “The Mountaintop,” which opens Oct. 13.

Ana Gasteyer brought down the house as a bratty, emphatic Olivia the Pig, reading “Olivia … and the Missing Toy” by Ian Falconer.

Billy Crudup read “Duck for President” by Doreen Cronin, and Brooke Shields joined Reilly to read “Sylvester and the Magic Pebble” by William Steig.

At Bellevue, doctors encourage parents to read aloud to their children at home by giving them free books in their native language.

Moore said the key to reading to children is to “give them enough space to use their imagination.”

Uptown, another organization also entertained adults with kid-like fun. Friends in Deed, which offers support to people with life-threatening illnesses, presented a treasure hunt at the American Museum of Natural History. Composer Stephen Sondheim designed the hunt.

“He is the master,” said Benjamin Rosen, a Sondheim game veteran and former chairman of Compaq Computer Corp. “The clues are as clever as his lyrics.”

The final clue required locating “Hall 4, Section 8, Aisle L, Case F8, Position R.”

Sound out 4-8-L-F8-R and you get, more or less, “freight elevator.” Team 18 got to the elevator first, and won mini dinosaurs and Droid mobile phones.

The rest of the event was less taxing on the brain: Waiters gave guests including Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick a choice of chicken or gnocchi for dinner, and Melissa Errico and Raul Esparza performed Sondheim songs.

Back at home, two babysitters watched over Errico’s three daughters, all under five.

“It takes a lot of people,” said Errico, who has a new CD of songs by Michel Legrand. “Everyone is very small. Bedtime is harder than daytime.”

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Korean Costume Science Foundation presented guests with a fashion show of Korean royal costumes and a dinner including rice and milk porridge and braised beef short ribs.

Guests included Bill Hwang of Tiger Asia Management, soprano Kathleen Kim (who played Madame Mao in “Nixon in China” at the Metropolitan Opera last winter), New York Philharmonic violinist Na Sun and costume designer and stylist Patricia Field.

“These clothes make Marie Antoinette look bourgeois,” said Field. “The embroidery, the fabric, the balance, it was all beautiful.”

The program included a presentation on the “Every Woman, Every Child” public-health program launched by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who dined with ABC correspondent Juju Chang and her husband, Neal Shapiro, president and CEO of WNET.

HAIR TREND: Drew Barrymore works a sleek ponytail!

Julianne Moore is in high spirits, and the 50-year-old, four-time-Oscar-nominated actor has every reason to celebrate. Her new romantic comedy, Crazy Stupid Love with Steve Carell, opened in the United States to wildly enthusiastic reviews, and there is already talk of awards for her next role as vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin in the TV film Game Change – and no one has seen it yet. We are meeting for breakfast at Cafe Cluny, a bustling and chic French brasserie around the corner from her West Village home in New York.

We sit at her favourite table, tucked away in a corner by the window, and Moore orders mixed berries with fresh cream, followed by an egg-white omelet. She turns off her mobile phone. No topic is off limits; our conversation ranges from film to family – and her refreshingly positive philosophy on ageing. "If you're 50, you're never going to be 50 ever again, so enjoy being 50," she says with no attempt to lower her voice. This is a woman happy to be her age and not afraid to let people know it. "If you sit through the year wishing you were younger, before you know it, it's going to be over and you're going to be 51."

In fact, Moore looks younger than 50, but she doesn't have that ubiquitous frozen Botox look. "No, I haven't had anything done. See, I have lines right here," she says, pointing to faint creases around her eyes and mouth." Moore puts down her fork, pausing to twist her hair into a bun, then traces her chin with her fingers. "There are things about my face that I'm not crazy about, but you are who you are. It seems like everybody has done work; I see a lot of it, but I don't think it looks any better – you're not going to suddenly look 25.

"I've always been somebody who's acutely aware of my mortality. You never know when it's all going to be over – and it will be someday. Being middle-aged [she uses the expression emphatically] is about realising that you've lived most of your life; you don't have as much time in front of you as you have behind you."

Moore was born on an army base, Fort Bragg, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She grew up with her mother, Anne, a social worker; her father, Peter, an army colonel and later a military judge; her sister, Valerie, and brother, Peter. Her father's profession meant constantly uprooting and changing schools. "We were all over the place – Nebraska, then Alaska, then New York, Virginia and then to Germany when I was 16 in 1977. It was very hard, terrible, I don't recommend it. My first boyfriend [at age 11] was a guy named Duff, when we lived in Alaska. We moved and I never got a chance to tell him. Years later, he actually contacted me through my publicist and I called him back. He's got kids, I've got kids, whatever. But he said, 'I never knew where you went. You just disappeared.' That would happen sometimes. I think moving around so much makes you insecure socially."

However, there was a positive side, she says. "It makes you adaptable. You become very flexible. And you're always searching for the universality of human behaviour, which you do in acting, too, asking 'What's the thing we all relate to? How are we the same?' Also, it was a great time to see the world because each country had an individual identity. We're living in a very global world now, but then you'd say, 'Look at these boots. I got them in Paris' and no one else had them."

Moore wasn't a confident child. "I didn't mind my [red] hair, but I just hated my freckles. You wanted to have skin like everybody else's, not pale and freckly. Kids would say things like, 'Are you dirty? Do they go away?' I didn't like not being able to go to the beach and get a tan." The experience inspired Moore to write her successful children's book series, Freckleface Strawberry. The latest instalment, Freckleface Strawberry: Best Friends Forever, is released this month.

It was Moore's love of reading rather than an extroverted personality that propelled her into acting. "I was a big reader; I read everything Louisa May Alcott ever wrote. When I started acting after school, it was an extension of reading. I am not a natural performer, but I really like to pretend. I still like to be in the story, which is really close to what I did when I was a kid."

She studied drama at Boston University, then worked as a waitress to support her acting. A stint on the soap opera As the World Turns led to a Daytime Emmy Award. Robert Altman's Short Cuts (1993) gave Moore her first film break. But global success came relatively late. There were three defining films that, she says, changed her status from supporting player to leading lady: Louis Malle's Vanya on 42nd Street (1994), the drama Safe, from director Todd Haynes, and Nine Months with Hugh Grant (both in 1995). The 1995 thriller Assassins was followed by Steven Spielberg's The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)."Suddenly I had a commercial film career," she says.

"I don't think that early success really serves anybody honestly. I think that's true even of a novelist who writes a best seller when they're 20 years old, because then what are you going to do for the rest of your life? What do you aspire to? It's all about doing work because you like doing it, that's whatwill sustain you, rather than doing it for fame or recognition," she says, although she has enjoyed plenty of both, with seven Golden Globe and four Oscar nominations, for Boogie Nights (1997), The End of the Affair (1999), The Hours and Far from Heaven (both 2002). But no wins, so far.

Moore is one of only a handful of older women (along with Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren) getting consistently strong roles. An intriguing blend of passion, power and warmth infuses her characters, whether it's a porn queen in Boogie Nights or an incestuous mother in Savage Grace. She is equally adept at comedy, from Robert Altman's Cookie's Fortune to The Big Lebowski. In her winningly funny performance last year in The Kids Are All Right, she played Jules, a lesbian mother of two who betrays her partner Annette Bening to have an affair with Mark Ruffalo, the sexy sperm donor of their children.

In Crazy Stupid Love, she plays Emily: bored with her comfortable but dull 25-year marriage to Cal (Steve Carell) and having an affair with David (Kevin Bacon). "I loved the fact that on the first page of the script there are the words 'I want a divorce' … you generally don't see anything that bold in a studio comedy. It didn't pull any punches. And I love Steve. He has this insane, impeccable comedic ability."

The film takes a realistic and comical look at relationships and the complexities of family life.

Cal and Emily muddle through their problems – including new sexual partners (in Cal's case, multiple one-night stands). Their teenage son, meanwhile, has a crush on the 17-year-old babysitter, while she, in turn, is infatuated with his dad.

When Emily walks out, Cal drowns his sorrows at a local bar. Jacob (Ryan Gosling), a young, ultra-cool Lothario, takes pity on Cal, gives him a makeover and shows him some pick-up lines. But Jacob's slick style won't work with the one woman he really wants: Hannah (Emma Stone).

The comedy works well, says Moore, because it is authentic. "I think marriage is really hard. My husband and I have been together for 15 years now, which is hard for me to believe." She shakes her head. "We talk about having to make an effort, go away together, do something different. But you have jobs and kids and the roof is leaking and then something breaks in the basement, and then the dog has got some horrible virus, and you suddenly think: this is what my life has become."

Crazy Stupid Love doesn't sentimentalise sex or relationships, but the romantic notion of soul mates lies at the heart of the film. Moore appears ambivalent about the subject. "It's rare to fall in love, and so when it does happen, it's a pretty big event. How many of your single girlfriends say, 'I can't meet anybody'? So you can't ignore it. On the other hand, the film says marriage is about the accumulation of time, an investment in each other and in your children, not just the romantic part."

Is marriage harder in the public eye? "I think we're all in the same boat. There are people who hit the wall and split up and others who hit the wall and don't split up. One thing I've noticed is you don't avoid hitting the wall; you have to work at it."

Moore reminds me of a moment in one of her favourites among her own films, Neil Jordan's The End of the Affair. Her character, Sarah, is married to Henry (Stephen Rea) and has an affair with Maurice (Ralph Fiennes). "When Sarah dies, Ralph talks to Stephen about how hard and horrible it is for him. He says, 'She could shop and eat and cook with you, but she could only make love with me.' They were in love, but the relationship was incomplete because they couldn't share their lives. They couldn't go shopping together. I was really struck by that, because love is more than the romantic part. It's the living part, too.

"I am not saying that desperately unhappy people shouldn't split up. I was divorced. I got married too early and I really didn't want to be there. I was just working a lot," she says of her marriage to actor John Gould Rubin – they split up in 1994.

She met her current husband, Bart Freundlich, on the set of his film The Myth of Fingerprints in 1996. "You have to want to be married." Does she recommend therapy? "Throw the book at it. Do whatever you can. Whatever makes you feel good. But then again, you can throw everything I say out because I'm not going to be any wiser than your best friend," she says, laughing at the idea that an actor would have any remotely useful insights on relationships.

I suggest that we look for inspiration from a woman like Moore because she seems to embody the highly attractive combination of glamour, success and happy family. Moore, however, maintains she is not special, that her success is the result of luck, and that her family life in Manhattan, while obviously privileged, is "normal and pretty pedestrian. Our son is now 13 and it is really sweet and fun watching him change. You've got to hold your breath, haven't you? I've tried not to be invasive, not to sit peering over him looking at his texts. But we do a little 'lurking' on Facebook," she confesses with a mock-guilty smile. "Once there was something horrible on his Facebook page, so we asked him to remove it. He was like, 'How did you know?' I said, 'Because we lurk. That's what we do.' You have to make them 'friend' you and then lurk," she instructs, "or get your babysitter to do it!"

Moore's own mother died 2 1/2 years ago. The actor says she misses her constantly. "I don't know that you ever recover from loss; it's absolutely devastating," she says. "I don't wish it on anybody. My mother was very young, too. She died at 68 [of an infection followed by an embolism]. The thing about having a very young mother who had you at 20 is that you expect that you're going to be old ladies together. But anyway …" she trails off. "I've learnt that you have to appreciate every minute with your children, with your parents, with your friends. You have to concentrate on the now. Don't wish your life away. Be present." (Moore recently became a British citizen in honour of her mother, who was Scottish.)

Of the upcoming Game Change, she says. "It was very challenging and involved a tremendous amount of research. My son made fun of me because I played nothing but Sarah Palin [speeches and interviews] on my iPod," says Moore, who has not met the controversial Republican politician. "I am never going to be completely comfortable playing a living person who is almost iconic and very present in people's minds. I can only represent that person in my own way within the movie that we're making. I hope we pulled it off." Moore herself is a confirmed supporter of President Obama.

Does she still worry about getting work? "There are always times when it's stressful and you feel like, 'I haven't had a job for a while.' I don't want to fall into that ditch of not working. So I just try to look straight ahead and hope that the jobs keep coming," says the unassuming Ms Moore – ever the insecure actor – despite her lengthy, acclaimed career. And you get the sense that even an Oscar wouldn't alter that.

Julianne Moore on ageing joyfully

The latest to join One Shot, the adaptation of Lee Child's thriller novel about former military cop Jack Reacher and the investigation of a strange set of sniper murders in the midwest, is David Oyelowo. Fresh from The Help and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, he'll play a veteran homicide detective who investigates the sniper deaths.

Tom Cruise plays hero Jack Reacher, and Christopher McQuarrie scripted and will direct. [Variety]

After the break, Marisa Tomei joins Us & Them, and Nathan Lane teaches alongside Julianne Moore in an indie comedy.

Fortunately for us, Marisa Tomei is having a few busy years. She was in Crazy, Stupid, Love., The Lincoln Lawyer and Salvation Boulevard already this year, and now she'll join Billy Crystal and Bette Midler in Us and Them. Tomei will play the daughter of the Crystal/Midler couple.

The film follows that couple as "grandparents who struggle to cope with their grandkids' modern ways when they're left to care for them. The duo forge a new bond with their grandkids and set out to repair a long-standing rift with their daughter, Alice (Tomei)." One of the grandkids will be played by Bailee Madison (Don't Be Afraid of the Dark).

Andy Fickman is directing what sounds like it aims to be a new comedy that couple potentially sit well with fans of Parenthood and Meet the Parents.  [Variety]

Finally, Nathan Lane is joining Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear in the indie comedy The English Teacher.

Dan and Stacy Chariton wrote the film which will be the feature directorial debut of TV veteran Craig Zisk. Julianne Moore will be a high school English teacher "whose life is upended when a former star pupil returns to her small town after failing miserably as a playwright in New York." Evidently the former pupil decides to put together a play in his old hometown, and Lane will be a drama teacher who helps with that process. [Variety]

Casting Bits: David Oyelowo in 'One Shot;' Marisa Tomei in 'Us & Them;' Nathan Lane in 'The English Teacher'

When the role screams "hapless", Hollywood calls Steve Carell. As the everyman no man wants to be, Carell has excelled for the past decade in making television and film audiences cringe and laugh simultaneously.

Often demanding mild disdain along with a piece of our hearts, he is arguably at his best among a stellar cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone in Crazy, Stupid, Love. The film was written by Dan Fogelman (Cars, Tangled) with Carell in mind.

Carell plays a comfortable – too comfortable – middle-age, straight-as-a-die professional, whose unsettlingly ideal suburban life is turned on its head when his wife, Emily (Moore), cheats on him and asks for a divorce.

A daggy cuckold in despair, he's hauled from his uncool funk by Jacob (Gosling), an unrepentant and enviably talented womaniser who takes the older man under his well-dressed wing and transforms him into a veritable stud.

Romancing, lusting, self-discovery and intersecting relationships ensue in Fogelman's multi-layered tale about the glory and pain of emotional commitment and the wretched loneliness of rejection and familial detachment.

"It's a tricky balance between the drama and the comedy but I think you could see the potential from the start," Carell says of the film, which marks the directorial debut of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, an established writing team (I Love You Phillip Morris, Bad Santa).

As the movie's executive producer, Carell got the cast he wanted, as well as the influence to preserve elements of the film routinely risk-averse Hollywood powerbrokers might have changed.

"We talked to one potential director about the script and about signing on and he thought the character that was eventually played by Julianne, Emily, should not have had an affair because it would make her way too much of a villain and unrelatable and unsympathetic," he says.

"I was of the mind that that was absolutely important that she did have an affair – we just had to get the right actor – and we did."

Since leaving the hugely successful US version of TV sitcom The Office last year, Carell has barrelled ahead with his film acting and blooming behind-the-scenes career, lining up a slew of fresh roles that seem set to consolidate his emerging reputation as the king of dramedy.

The 49-year-old former improv comic concedes he is actively pursuing producing roles.

"So we can jump in early and sort of shape it the way we want to shape it."

Carell came to the film business relatively late in life, having forged a comedic career through Chicago's famed Second City troupe and TV work with Jon Stewart and Saturday Night Live.

After bursting into the very big time in 2005, courtesy of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, a surprise hit he also wrote, his career has bubbled and popped along rather than, as expected, exploding, perhaps sporadically defused by his desire to mix hard-pitch comedy (Evan Almighty, Get Smart) with more complex roles (Little Miss Sunshine, Dan in Real Life).

With Crazy, Stupid, Love, Carell looks to be (and says he is) in his element, prompting the question of whether he might want to tackle straight drama in the future.

"Perhaps," he tells Metro in New York. "But it's not anything I have any pretence about.

"I don't want to do something in order to prove I am capable of doing drama. And it's nice to get a balance between the two: I've just finished a movie (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World) with Keira Knightley about a guy trying to make sense out of his life two weeks before Armageddon and it's very dark – and funny, yes, but very serious."

While Gosling – "the funniest person on set", according to Ficarra and Requa – insists Carell can "do anything", the younger actor is in awe of Carell's ability to "be dangerously amusing".

Now 30, Gosling once scored a role in a TV pilot starring Carell, "although I was never in a scene with him".

The show didn't make it to the small screen but the Academy Award nominee harboured a strong desire to work with Carell ever since.

"I love Steve," Gosling says.

"During that [TV pilot], I didn't work directly with him but I did watch him. It was unbelievable … one day it was so funny, a guy dropped the boom and had a laughing fit.

"It was the first time I had ever worked with someone … so good at what he did, it was a problem."

The Kids Are All Right takes a look at an unconventional family with universal problems. Nic (Annette Bening) and Jules (Julianne Moore) are a lesbian couple raising their two children whom they conceived through artificial insemination. Nic is a doctor who hits the bottle a little too often while Jules is indecisive in her career, despite being in her forties. Their daughter, Joni (Mia Wasikowska), is about to go away for college and their son, Laser (Josh Hutcherson), is in his awkward teens. Besides some slight external flaws, it would appear that their family is a happy and healthy one.

The family soon finds itself struggling to keep themselves together after Laser and Joni seek out their biological father without their parents' permission or knowledge. Paul (Mark Ruffalo) is a motorcycle-riding organic restaurant owner who automatically welcomes Joni and Laser into his life. Joni finds Paul to be everything she had hoped, but Laser is weary of him. Eventually Nic and Jules meet Paul during an awkwardly funny dinner at their house and soon lines are drawn. Nic sides with Laser and doesn't trust Paul, while Jules sides with Joni and doesn't see the harm in him.

Things get worse when Jules offers to help out with Paul's unruly backyard (at this point in her life she fancies herself a landscape artist) and she finds herself strangely attracted to him. This strains her all ready unstable relationship with Nic, and divides the family even more. As the summer draws to a close and Joni prepares to leave for college, it's unsure whether or not the once close-knit family will recover.

What sets this film apart from your standardized Hollywood family flick is the acting. Seriously, you couldn't ask for a better cast. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore just feel like a real couple who have been together for years. They are incredibly in sync with one another which adds to the realism of their relationship. Moore would appear to have the better role, being able to break loose and express herself more freely as Jules; However, Bening is just as great as the over-worked, over-stressed breadwinner who is desperately trying to protect her family. Mark Ruffalo radiates charm in this film. He is perfect as the donor dad who, after years of living with no attachments, finds himself casually agreeing to play dad to the kids he's fathered. Plus, he manages to hold his own with cinema vets Bening and Moore. Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson are right on the money as the teenagers coming into adulthood and dealing with the changes that come with that.

Like Little Miss Sunshine and Juno, this little movie that could has gained a lot of Oscar buzz. Bening and Moore are guaranteed nominations, and rumor has it that they will both vie for the Best Actress award. Ruffalo stands a chance for a Best Supporting Actor, nomination while writers Lisa Cholodenko (who also directed) and Stuart Blumberg may be nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

The Kids Are All Right has something everyone can relate to, even if your family isn't as unconventionally structured.

Thanks to the movie Next I realize that time travel is impossible.

In Next, Nicholas Cage plays a man named Cris Johnson who can see into his own future a few minutes, while he can see a long ways into the future of his soon-to-be girlfriend, Liz Cooper (Jessica Biel). Also, Julianne Moore plays a hard-nose FBI agent (I think her name is Julianne Moore).

But God would never allow anyone to have the give of seeing into the future. This would violate the sacred gift He gave all people, called Choice. For the same reason God would never allow time travel.

The power to choose is like a superpower that God gave every human being. Thanks to this superpower, all people have the ability to alter their own lives and the world around them. People can wield this power for the cause of either Good or Bad.

Every person in the world is exercising Choice a million times every second, continuing forward with each step, word and gesture. Therefore, it would be impossible for anyone, even Nicholas Cage, to see even one second into the future. The future is changing in an infinite variety of ways all the time.

If Nicholas Cage could see the future, this would nullify the fact that people must make choices every second and then live with their choices. People would be unable to make the choices they meant to make because Cage would be interrupting them.

For the same reason that no one can see into the future, time travel must be impossible. The future does not exist yet therefore there is nothing to travel to in the future or see.

Kevin Bacon is in talks to join Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in 'R.I.P.D.'.

Kevin Bacon is to star in 'R.I.P.D.'.

The 'X-Men: First Class' actor is in talks to join the film – an adaptation of a Dark Horse graphic novel – alongside Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds.

The movie follows Ryan's character, a recently-deceased policeman, who is assigned to a squad of officers in the spirit world known as the Rest In Peace Department.

Variety reports that Kevin would be playing the movie villain and although it is unclear where he fits into the film, it is believed he will play the man responsible for killing the cop.

'Red' filmmaker Robert Scwemtke will direct the movie, from a script penned by 'Clash of the Titans' writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

The film will start shooting in Boston this September.

Kevin – who can next be seen starring in 'Crazy, Stupid Love' alongside Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell – is currently filming 'Jayne Mansfield's Car'.

'R.I.P.D.' – also starring Jodie Foster – is currently scheduled for release in June 2013.

"We're really happy," she told Us Weekly of her eldest, who sports his mom's trademark red hair and freckles. "This is his first premiere, so we're really excited to be here!"

This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Casting Tidbits stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked – this would the shit that they birthed. first up, if slack-jawed Gary Busey wasn't enough stunt casting for Piranha 3DD, you'll be happy to know that the Weinstein Company just announced that "Baywatch" lifeguard David Hasslehoff has also joined the cast of the tongue-in-cheek horror. since the fish invade a waterpark this time, it's easy to see why he's needed.

Second, Deadline has word that Colin Firth and Emily Blunt will team-up for an untitled dark comedy for commercial director Dante Ariola and writer Becky Johnston. the story follows a man (Firth) who hates his job and is hated by his ex-wife and son. Feeling he missed his one shot at living the dream, he fakes his death and buys a new identity. along the way he meets a woman (Blunt) who is also trying to leave her past behind. the pair break into empty homes and pose as the absent owners while finding a special relationship despite all the lying.

Also, THR reports Orlando Bloom, Nick Nolte, Stanley Tucci and Cristiana Capotondi will all star in the comedy Idea in America. Cecilia Miniucchi will write and direct the coming-of-age road trip story about a young Italian ornithologist who travels from California to Georgia in the pursuit of the American bald eagle, a dream job and her independence. Production is supposed to being in the fall with Indomina Releasing head Bruce Kirkland saying, “The story has the irreverent freshness that audiences are drawn to and truly appreciate and the casting is perfect.” We'll see about that.

Next , THR reports "True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard, Julianne Moore and Steve Coogan will star in What Maisie Knew, an adaptation of Henry James' novel of the same name. Scott McGehee and David Siegel will direct the film which follows Maisie, a six-year-old girl enmeshed in the bitter divorce of her mother, a rock and roll icon, and her father, a charming but distracted art dealer. Moore stars as Maisie’s mother, Coogan as her father and Skarsgard stars as Moore’s new husband.

In addition, THR also has word that Matthew McConaughey and Hilary Swank will co-star in The Dallas Buyer's Club. the real-life drama from director Jean-Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) follows Ron Woodroof, a Texas electrician diagnosed with AIDS who began smuggling alternative drugs into the U.S. to help himself and other AIDS patients. his actions put him on a collision course with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which was bent on keeping the drugs out of the country.

Finally, THR reports from Cannes that Katie Holmes and Chace Crawford will make sparks fly in the romantic comedy Responsible Adults. John Poll is directing the film from a script by Alex Schemmer which follows a 30-year-old med student, to be played by Holmes, who meets and falls for a younger man, played by Crawford, only to realize she once was his baby sitter. Sounds like every teenage boy's dream.

Casting Tidbits: David Hasslehoff, Colin Firth, Orlando Bloom & More « FirstShowing.net

Claiming to be a sort of "Sex and The City" style entertainment, "Trust The Man" has a stellar cast that makes this run-of-the-mill operation watchable but at the end of the day, there's nothing special enough here that you wouldn't find in a movie of the week on TV. The film has some nice and funny moments, largely helped by the cast; David Duchovny imbues his character with a sense of cheeky naughtiness, and Julianne Moore fares well as the logical, by the numbers actress who seems to have lost her imagination in the bedroom. The film follows their lives and another couple as they go through the typical ups and downs of modern relationships, but aside from the likeability of its stars, there's nothing new here, making this an unremarkable and forgettable viewing experience.

Duchovny plays Tom, house husband of Moore's character Rebecca. Tom needs sex, but Rebecca shows no interest being obsessed with her own acting career. after several attempts, Tom eventually ends up having an affair with a mother from his child's school, leading to their relationship being strained. Meanwhile, Tobey (Billy Crudup) and Elaine (Maggie Gyllenhaal) are having their own problems; Tobey seems to be obsessed with immature issues like not driving Elaine to work because he doesn't want to lose his car space. Elaine becomes frustrated, eventually leaving Tobey after she tells him angrily that she feels she's wasted his life on him. during the film, the two couples, either altogether or in smaller groups come together to discuss their issues and how best to keep moving forward. The film ultimately ends up in the soppy, predictable, happy ending territory, but not before it transforms from a run of the mill relationship film in to an over-the-top ridiculous farce. That's right; there are sequences at the end of the film that are just over the top and down right silly. But I'll get to that in a moment.

The first half of the film is its strongest. It's here that we get to see the stars of this film shine, even though the material they've got to work with is weak. David Duchovny, having left X-Files territory and moving in to increasingly quirkier roles plays a more subdued version of his character from "Californication". this character has a lot more virtues, and he manages to convey a sense of fun that this film desperately needs. Julianne Moore is an excellent contrast, playing rigid very well, and showing a complete lack of interest in sex with Tom. Billy Crudup is a little annoying as the man-child Tobey, but then that goes with the territory for such a character. and Maggie Gyllenhaal plays perhaps the most straight character out of all of them, as the emotionally confused Elaine who is trying to find happiness and has to experiment with other people before she finally comes back to Tobey. Eva Mendes also has a supporting role as a sexy distraction for Tobey. this is a great cast and they are the only real selling point of this film.

The film is quite run of the mill from the beginning but it is watchable. I think where things started to fall away was in the scene where Tom shows up at the house of the woman he's having an affair with and her kid greets him at the door by punching him in the balls. as a reflex action, I laughed hysterically because it's such a banana peel moment, but then you start to wonder what's going on from that point because it becomes increasingly more ridiculous. Ultimately the film ends up at Rebecca's play and in theatrical fashion, Tom proposes his love for her at the climax of her performance, leading everyone to clap and cheer. But it doesn't end there because we have to wrap up Tobey's and Elaine's story. Tobey screams out to Elaine and he starts to preach his love for her. during this, the audience thinks this is part of the show and keenly tune in, making for some scenes which I guess are funny on the surface, but you wind up laughing at it because its so ridiculous and unbelievable. seeing audience members crowd around putting on very keen looks as they watch Tobey and Elaine is silly. in the end, not even the cast can overcome the shoddy material.

"Trust The Man" starts out okay but ultimately ends up in a silly place and if it weren't for a great cast, this film should not even be recommended to watch.

What’s a pregnant porn goddess to do? well, when that scenario unfolds for legendary adult film star Elektra Luxx (Gugino), she decides to quit the industry, take a job as a “sexology” instructor at a community college and look forward to a new life with her baby.  There are only a few obstacles in her way, among them  an obsessed web streamer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Inception), a studly private investigator (Timothy Olyphant, TV’s Justified), a pair of porn star gal pals (Friday Night Lights's Adrianne Palicki and Saint John of Las Vegas's Emmanuelle Chriqui), a criminal twin sister and even the Virgin Mary (an unbilled Julianne Moore of Chloe).

Written, directed and produced by Ms. Gugino’s boyfriend Sebastian Gutierrez, Elektra Luxx is a sequel to his 2009 film Women in Trouble, which also starred his Ms. Gugino as well as many of the actors who also appear in this latest movie.

Elektra Luxx popped up on a few screens in new York and L.A. during a limited theatrical release last month.

The DVD, which includes a group of deleted scenes as a bonus feature, carries a list price of $24.96.

The trailer for CRAZY STUPID LOVE has everything I want.  Steve Carell is back to playing the straight man, Ryan Gosling is cool as anything, and us boys have Marisa Tomei and Emma Stone to stare at.

The movie basically has Ryan Gosling mentoring Steve Carell in the ways of charisma and style to get the ladies after Carell's wife (Julianne Moore) admits to cheating on him. And that doesn't mean that Gosling doesn't have a life changing moment as well…

The Official Synopsis reads:

"at fortysomething, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream–good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). in an effort to help Cal get over his wife and start living his life, Jacob opens Cal’s eyes to the many options before him: flirty women, manly drinks and a sense of style that can’t be found at Supercuts or the Gap. Quit while you're ahead, Tara Reid. Understandably excited about the upcoming American Pie reunion film—not just Eugene Levy and a descendant of Stifler this time!—Tara announced outside benefit show that she'll also be doing The big Lebowski 2 this year. Apparently this was news to that classic film's directors, the Coen Bros. "well, we don’t [have plans] but we’ll watch it when it comes out," Ethan told Austin 360, with Joel adding "Especially if Tara's in it." Did Tara dream this, or did someone trick her into believing The big Lebowski: Dude of The Moon was go-time?

Here's Tara's rep's explanation, courtesy of EW: "She heard Jeff Bridges say that he wanted to make big Lebowski 2 and have all the original cast members in it, so she may have misspoke, thinking that included her based on what Jeff said."
